About The Position

The King County's Facilities Management Division (FMD), Building Operations Section (BOS) is looking to hire an Electrician I. This position will perform journey-level electrician duties including installation, alteration, troubleshooting/diagnosis, and preventative maintenance and repair of electrical systems, fixtures, and related equipment. This position will be a day shift: Monday – Friday, 6:55 am – 3:25 pm. This recruitment will be used to fill one (1) Career Service Electrician I vacancy and two (2) Term-Limited Temporary (TLT) vacancies. The recruitment may also be used to create an eligibility list for future Career Service, Term-Limited Temporary (TLT) or Special Duty Assignments (SDA) vacancies within the same classification. Term-Limited Temporary (TLT) opportunities are "at-will" for a specified duration but are also full-time and comprehensive benefits eligible. Through a workforce of over 300 dedicated employees, the FMD operates and manages the County's capital assets by developing and maintaining cost-conscious, sustainable, high-quality facilities, and environments. The BOS provides custodial services, maintenance and building operations, as well as building security. BOS is committed to providing high quality service to effectively and efficiently support and maintain buildings and their occupants. BOS maintains approximately 3 million square feet in facilities where King County provides regional services, including the King County Courthouse, District Courts, King County Correctional Facility, Children and Family Justice Center, Maleng Regional Justice Center, King County Administration Building, King County Animal Shelter, and several Public Health facilities. Our facilities range in age from 1 to 100 years, with equipment such as boilers, chillers, DDC controls, ventilation fans, pumps and compressors, and fire/life/safety systems.

Requirements

  • Possess (and maintain) a valid Washington State General Journeyman-01 license (required).
  • Have journey-level knowledge of and skills in the electrical trade.
  • Have a thorough knowledge of: Methods, practices, materials and tools of the electrical trade.
  • Hazards and safety precautions necessary in the electrical trade.
  • National Electric Code.
  • Possess past professional experience in: Using and caring for the tools, machinery, and equipment of the electrical trade.
  • Reading blueprints and schematics.
  • Troubleshooting methods and techniques.
  • Installing complete electrical systems.
  • Reading and interpreting instrumentation.
  • Repairing, troubleshooting and maintaining electrical systems and equipment.
  • Technical reading and writing skills.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical problems.
  • Maintain equipment and perform preventative maintenance according to manufacturer's recommendations and warranty requirements.
  • Identify preventative maintenance needs and make recommendations.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical components of security, building operations, and life safety systems.
  • Install light fixtures.
  • Install secondary service wiring in and between buildings.
  • Install low voltage wiring systems in buildings.
  • Read construction documents and estimate cost and resource requirements.
  • Verify that all electrical equipment and circuits are working within specification.
  • Other duties as assigned.
