About The Position

The Electrician is responsible for planning the layout, installing, and repairing wiring, electrical fixtures, apparatus, and control equipment. This role involves planning new or modified installations to minimize waste, ensure future maintenance access, and adhere to specifications and electrical codes. The Electrician will prepare sketches, measure, cut, bend, and assemble conduit, pull wiring, splice wires, and connect wiring to fixtures and equipment. They will also install control and distribution apparatus, test circuits for safety and compatibility, and observe equipment function for hazards or necessary adjustments. This position may also involve repairing faulty equipment, gathering information, and assisting in mentoring and training other employees.

Requirements

  • Demonstrates critical thinking and reasoning skills
  • High School diploma or equivalency
  • High School level language (writing/speaking/listening) and mathematical skills
  • 1-4 years of prior Electrician experience

Responsibilities

  • Plans new or modified installation to minimize waste of material.
  • Provide access for future maintenance and avoid unsightly, hazardous or unreliable wiring consistent with specifications, local and national electrical codes.
  • Prepares sketches showing location of wiring and equipment, or follows diagrams or blueprints ensuring that concealed wiring is installed before completion of future walls, ceilings and flooring.
  • Measures, cuts, bends, threads, and assembles and installs electrical conduit using tools such as hacksaw, pipe threader and conduit bender.
  • Pulls wiring through conduit assisted by helper.
  • Splices wires by stripping insulation from terminal leads using knife or pliers, twisting or soldering wires together, and applying tape or terminal caps.
  • Connects wiring to lighting fixtures and power equipment using hand tools.
  • Installs control and distribution apparatus, such as switches, relays and circuit breaker panels, fastening in place with screws or bolts using hand tools and power tools.
  • Connects power cables to equipment such as electric range or motor and installs grounding leads.
  • Tests circuits to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of components using various testing instruments.
  • Observes functioning of installed equipment or system to detect hazards and need for adjustments, relocation or replacement.
  • May repair faulty equipment or systems.
  • Gathers and collates information and data.
  • Assist in the mentoring, training, and growth of other employee owners.
