The High Voltage Electrician II performs a variety of electrical trade functions such as the installation, maintenance, or repair of equipment for the generation, distribution, or utilization of electric energy. Requirements

  • Completion of Electrician apprenticeship.
  • Two years journey-level Electrician, including analysis of High Voltage controls circuits for power generating and distribution systems up to 115 kV.
  • Skilled in the use of hand and power tools common to the trade.
  • Ability to troubleshoot down to the component level.
  • Ability to understand and apply codes, blueprints, diagrams, and engineering drawings.

  • In general, the work of the maintenance electrician requires rounded training and experience usually acquired through a formal apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Installing repairing any of a variety of electrical equipment such as generators, transformers, switchboards, controllers, circuit breakers, motors, heating units, conduit systems, or other transmission equipment; working from blueprints, drawings layouts, or other specifications; locating and diagnosing trouble in the electrical system or equipment; working standard computations relating to load requirements of wiring or electrical equipment; and using a variety of electrician’s hand tools and training and measuring and testing instruments.
  • Works on various portions of High Voltage controls and systems including work of troubleshooting, programming, installing, maintaining, repairing, modifying, and testing.
  • Switching sequencing and power outage coordination is a critical part of the work. Work involves different kinds of switch gear, breakers, and circuits such as High Voltage controls, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), contacts, wiring, ladder logic diagrams, governors and governor controls, and High voltage system relays.
  • Performs other duties as requested.
