The DC licensed electrician and/or NICET certified technician is responsible for evaluating, maintaining, testing, repairing, and replacing a variety of electrical and life safety facility components (as their training and credentialing may allow), to ensure the equipment is fully operational and meets university standards. The position holder will also be involved in corrective and preventive maintenance, minor alteration work, and may oversee temporary labor, and/or other trade persons or contractors as required. The position holder requires general supervision and often works independently. Essential Functions: Performs routine testing, inspection, operation and maintenance of campus central Fire Alarm System(s) and Sprinkler systems (wet, dry and special hazard) to ensure that these systems are code compliant, safe and operating as designed. Includes corrective repairs and construction, renovation, improvement projects (e.g. Capital, Deferred Maintenance, Energy projects) support. Performs routine testing, inspection, operation and maintenance of campus Medium Voltage electrical systems, emergency generator and transfer equipment/systems to ensure that these systems are code compliant, safe and operating as designed. Includes corrective repairs and construction, renovation, improvement projects (e.g. Capital, Deferred Maintenance, Energy projects) support. Perform logistical and administrative functions associated with workload. Attend meetings and recommended/required trainings to stay current with codes, departmental procedures, new equipment and to maximize job performance. Provide expert support for Commissioning, Special Events and other duties as assigned. Perform job tasks independently or in conjunction with other parties and to the standard that meets or exceeds DC, as well as National Code compliance guidelines (e.g. NEC, NFPA). Hours are 7:00am – 3:30pm, Monday - Friday (with occasional late evening, night, and weekend work). Salary Range: $35.21 - $42.26 per hour. Required Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent. 4 - 6 years of relevant experience. Preferred Education and Experience: 5 - 8 years of relevant experience. District of Columbia Journeyman Electrician License. NICET Fire Alarm Certification. Siemens Desigo Modular and/or Siemens Desigo modular voice certification classes. Additional Eligibility Qualifications: Ability to work in confined spaces. Ability to work and function in a wide range of climate conditions. Schedule flexibility to respond and report onsite to emergency calls. Basic Computer and Smartphone usage skills. Valid Driver’s License. Requirements
