About The Position

ASRC Federal Gulf State Constructors is seeking an Electrician, Exterior in support of our Sheppard AFB Base Operations Support Contract located in Wichita Falls, TX. This role involves the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical systems and associated fixtures, controls, and equipment rated at 50 volts or higher. The position requires expertise in high voltage generating, controlling, and distributing systems, including underground and overhead power lines, as well as maintaining and repairing airfield lighting systems. The role also encompasses general maintenance electrician work that requires comprehensive training and experience, typically gained through a formal apprenticeship or equivalent.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Current Journeyman Electrician License
  • Knowledge of Exterior Electrical, Industrial Components & high voltage, and CE/AF Base Ops
  • CPR Certified
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance if required
  • Must be a US citizen for contract requirements

Responsibilities

  • Installs, modifies, connects, inspects, troubleshoots, and repairs overhead and underground street lighting equipment.
  • Sets up and aligns poles, erects cross arms and fixtures, strings conductors, installs transformers and services with connections.
  • Repairs primary distribution equipment such as cracked insulators, broken pins, wires, short circuits, and loose connections.
  • Checks the condition of transformers, switches, and cables.
  • Tests insulating oil of transformers and oil switches for breakdown and contamination.
  • Installs transformers on hangers, lighting arresters, switches, and fuses.
  • Troubleshoots cable systems to locate shorts, opens, grounds, crosses, and cable breaks.
  • Selects and installs insulators, and joins line conductors by splicing.
  • Strings wires, pulls wires to proper tension and sag.
  • Installs and replaces arms and cross arms and attaches pole guys.
  • Installs, modifies, and tests electrical lines, circuits, systems, fixtures, controls, and equipment rated 50 volts or higher, considering amperage, phase, and frequency requirements.
  • Installs, maintains, and repairs all types of grounding systems and lightning protection systems.
  • Works from building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, engineering drawings, and electrical maintenance and repair manuals to plan and layout routing, placement, type, size gauge, balance, load, continuity, and safe operation of electrical lines, circuits, systems, equipment, and controls.
  • Works on a wide variety of equipment, including motors, motor control devices, speed control units, and automatic control equipment.
  • Installs and maintains electronic controls for machines in business and industry.
  • Pulls insulated wires or cables through conduit to complete circuits between boxes and manholes.
  • Connects wires to circuit breakers, transformers, and other components.
  • Joins wires in boxes with various specially designed connectors.
  • Performs preventive/recurring maintenance.
  • Advises management on whether continued operation of equipment could be hazardous.
  • Interprets and applies the National Electric Code, local codes, building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, and engineering drawings, and uses trade formulas to calculate common properties (e.g., voltage drops, current capacity in series and parallel circuits, resistance, inductance, capacitance, power factors, current flow, and temperature and length in single and multiple raceways, conduit, gutters, and cable trays).
  • Makes necessary repairs as quickly as possible to minimize inconvenience.
  • Works with Engineers, engineering technicians, or industrial machinery installation, repair, and maintenance workers.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to support mission and customer requirements.
