About The Position

The Electrician Apprentice assists with electrical installations and related work. The role involves reading blueprints, planning and preparing installations, handling wiring and conduit, connecting and testing electrical equipment, and maintaining tools and a safe work environment. The apprentice may also help lift, position, and secure materials and work pieces during installation. Work may involve hazardous wiring, uneven terrain, ladders, and working above ground.

Requirements

• Ability to read and understand blueprints.
• Ability to safely traverse uneven terrain while carrying tools and building materials.
• Ability to climb vertical ladders and work above ground as necessary.
• Ability to safely and dexterously use hand tools.
• Ability to safely operate power tools and equipment.

Responsibilities

• Read and understand blueprints.
• Assist with modifying or planning new installations to minimize material waste and provide access for future maintenance.
• Prepare sketches showing wiring and equipment locations, or follow diagrams and blueprints to ensure concealed wiring is installed before ceilings and floorings are completed.
• Work around hazardous wiring.
• Measure, cut, bend, thread, assemble, and install electrical conduit using rulers, hand tools, and power tools.
• Splice wires using hand tools, soldering equipment, tape, or terminal gaps.
• Connect wiring to lighting fixtures and power equipment using hand tools.
• Install control and distribution apparatus such as switches, relays, and circuit breaker panels.
• Unwind and pull cable.
• Connect power cable to equipment using hand tools.
• Test installed equipment for safety and electrical compatibility.
• Disassemble defective electrical equipment.
• Assist with lifting, positioning, and securing materials and work pieces during installation as needed.
• Clean and perform minor maintenance activities on tools and equipment.
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
• Safely traverse uneven terrain with tools and building materials.
• Climb vertical ladders and work above ground as necessary.
• Perform tasks involving safe and dexterous use of hand tools.
• Safely operate power tools and equipment.
