An apprentice is someone taking part in a paid apprenticeship program that usually lasts between four and five years. The apprenticeship allows the person to get real-world experience while being supervised by at least one Journeyman. With the successful completion of each semester, a step raise in pay is given. At the completion of the apprenticeship, and 8000 hours of on the job training, the apprentice will be eligible to take the State exam to obtain the Electrical Journeyman license. Job sites include construction sites, office buildings, schools, government facilities. ELECTRICAL - These professionals often install conduit, wiring, and install electrical fixtures and controls, plus troubleshoot problems and make repairs. Installation also includes the running of low voltage cabling, terminating, and troubleshooting for Energy Management and Control Systems (EMCS). Good communication skills are essential, as is the ability to work as part of a team.
