About The Position

Facilities Management (FM) provides maintenance, grounds, and custodial services to the entire campus. FM serves as a partner with Contract Colleges, Endowed, and Student and Campus Life. As a key steward of the University’s facilities, FM is responsible for facility assessments, skilled trades, general construction, building care, grounds, recycling, asbestos, and the management of planned, corrective, and preventive maintenance. Assist Journeyperson in all aspects of electrical/control trade, maintaining shop machinery, tools, equipment, and reading/interpreting blueprints. Gain knowledge and experience during the apprentice training period. Upon successful completion of apprenticeship, employee will be classified as a Journeyperson. This is a benefit eligible, union position within the BTC. The starting pay rate is $20.86/hour and depends on apprentice year. Facilities and Campus Services employees are required to attend staff development trainings and participate in the performance evaluation process.

Requirements

  • Experience modeling values that support inclusion, belonging, and wellbeing
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Mechanical aptitude for equipment repair and maintenance
  • Excellent verbal and written skills
  • Customer relations skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Must belong to the local Electrician Union or be able to join within 30 days after starting employment at Cornell
  • Must have and maintain a valid US driver’s license
  • Ability to maintain a safe work environment
  • Risk exposure to asbestos, toxic vapors, heat, cold, height and accumulated dirt
  • Available to work overtime as duties require, including weekends
  • Possibility of shift work
  • Able to ascend and descend heights and have agility and freedom of movement
  • Climb stairs and ladders
  • Able to move easily in confined spaces
  • Ability to wear a respirator and other employer-provided safety equipment
  • Ability to lift and/or move at least 50 pounds

Nice To Haves

  • Work experience in the electrical/control field
  • Formal training beyond high school strongly desired
