About The Position

This role involves assisting in electrical installations and modifications, requiring the ability to read blueprints, work with hazardous wiring, and utilize various tools and equipment. The apprentice will learn to install and maintain electrical systems, ensuring safety and compatibility. Key tasks include conduit installation, wire splicing, equipment connection, and testing. The position also requires physical capability to work in challenging environments, including uneven terrain and heights, and to handle materials and tools safely.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and understand blueprints.
  • Ability to work around hazardous wiring.
  • Proficiency in measuring, cutting, bending, threading, assembling, and installing electrical conduit.
  • Skill in splicing wires using hand tools, soldering equipment, tape, or terminal gaps.
  • Ability to connect wiring to lighting fixtures and power equipment.
  • Experience installing control and distribution apparatus (switches, relays, circuit breaker panels).
  • Ability to unwind and pull cable.
  • Skill in connecting power cable to equipment.
  • Ability to test installed equipment for safety and electrical compatibility.
  • Capability to disassemble defective electrical equipment.
  • Ability to assist in lifting, positioning, and securing materials and work pieces.
  • Ability to clean and perform minor maintenance on tools and equipment.
  • Ability to maintain a clean and safe work environment.
  • Must be able to safely traverse uneven terrain with tools and building materials.
  • Must be able to climb vertical ladders and work above ground as necessary.
  • Must be able to perform tasks involving safe and dexterous use of hand tools.
  • Must be able to safely operate power tools and equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Reads and understands blueprints.
  • Assists in modifying or planning new installations to minimize waste of materials and provide access for future maintenance.
  • Prepares sketches showing the location of wiring and equipment or follows diagrams or blueprints ensuring that concealed wiring is installed before the completion of future ceilings and floorings.
  • Works around hazardous wiring.
  • Measures, cuts, bends, threads, assembles, and installs electrical conduit using rulers, hand tools, and power tools.
  • Splices wires using hand tools, soldering equipment, tape or terminal gaps.
  • Connects wiring to lighting fixtures and power equipment using hand tools.
  • Installs control and distribution apparatus such as switches, relays, and circuit breaker panels.
  • Unwinds and pulls cable.
  • Connects power cable to equipment using hand tools.
  • Tests the installed equipment for safety and electrical compatibility.
  • Disassembles defective electrical equipment.
  • May assist in lifting, positioning, and securing of materials and work pieces during installation.
