About The Position

This position performs a variety of skilled and semiskilled manual tasks at the Apprentice level in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical equipment, mechanical equipment, instrumentation and control equipment. Work is performed under the general direction of the Master Electrician, or the Journeyman electrician. Duties may involve the use of trade tools and the operation of light construction equipment. Work is performed under the supervision of the Master Electrician.

Requirements

  • An individual who has not been through an Electrical Apprentice Program, or has not had time in the Electrical Field, must be willing to enroll in an Electrical Apprenticeship Program.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) from an U.S. Department of Education accredited institution is required.
  • An equivalent combination of education, experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered for minimum requirements except for licensure/certification requirements.
  • Possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license with an acceptable driving record is required.
  • Must be First Aid and CPR/AED certified or get certified within six (6) months of hire.
  • Ability to clearly and effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, the City’s management team, and the general public.
  • Ability to follow and apply common sense understanding, to carry out instructions furnished in written and oral form.
  • Ability to read and comprehend safety manuals, instructions, memos, work orders, and professional journals.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized situations when immediate guidance from the supervisor may not be available.
  • Possess the ability and strength to handle heave electrical materials and climbing stairs.
  • Ability to perform work in a consistently safe manner.
  • Capability of standard eye hand coordination and manual dexterity.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations and shop math (addition, subtraction, division, multiplication, fractions, and algebraic formula’s).

Nice To Haves

  • Possess and maintain a valid State of Florida CDL class “B” motor vehicles operator’s license or higher with Air Break and Tanker Endorsements and an acceptable driving record is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Works with the Journeyman Electrician to install electric wiring, devices, and perform preventive maintenance.
  • Performs routine inspections on operating equipment.
  • Responds to after hour emergencies as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
