About The Position

This position performs electrical and electronic repairs, preventive maintenance, equipment installation, and modifications to a wide variety of production equipment with limited supervision. The role requires the ability to read blueprints, handle ESD components, and solder. The Electrician 1st Class will be responsible for determining wire and cable size requirements, diagnosing and correcting motor and motor control troubles, operating testing equipment, and installing, maintaining, and repairing electronic control circuits and equipment. This role also involves working on live lines and circuits with all safety precautions, changing light bulbs and ballasts, operating and working from ladders, and making necessary openings and cutouts. The position requires familiarity with changes in trade methods and practices, laying out and installing electrical wiring and components, suggesting improvements, directing and instructing helpers, and maintaining a neat and orderly work area. Additionally, the role involves installing and making minor repairs to programmable controllers, staying updated on trade practices and new equipment, communicating business issues, and ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental practices. Other responsibilities include working in a team environment, complying with federally regulated programs, adhering to environmental and safety policies, using PPE, complying with quality system requirements, using test equipment and applicable software, meeting work performance targets, supporting LEAN and Six Sigma initiatives, supporting Maintenance Excellence (ME2), accurately completing records, and performing other work-related duties. The job may entail working on off shifts based on business needs.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or equivalent required.
  • 1 to 2 years of relevant work experience is required.
  • Demonstrated ability and experience using a PC, software such as Microsoft Office Suite, and navigating in a Microsoft Windows environment.
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills, be a team player, and be able to work with minimum technical supervision.
  • Arc Flash training
  • Knowledge of current electrical codes.
  • Must possess a current and valid driver's license.

  • Formalized vocational, technical, or apprenticeship training with applicable experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs electrical and electronic repairs, preventive maintenance, equipment installation and modifications to a wide variety of production equipment with limited supervision.
  • Determines wire and cable size requirements by calculating voltage, amperage, wattage, resistance, etc.
  • Diagnoses motor and motor control troubles and corrects by repairing or replacing parts.
  • Operates all testing equipment such as Voltage testers, Voltmeters, Ammeters, Ohmmeters, Wattmeters, etc.
  • Installs, maintains, and repairs electronic control circuits and equipment, photoelectric cell circuits, level controls, etc.
  • Works on live lines and circuits using all safety precautions.
  • Changes light bulbs and ballast of all types; also replaces or repairs fuses of any size used in plant.
  • Operates and works from ladders.
  • Makes necessary openings, cutouts, etc. as required by assignment.
  • Lays out and installs electrical wiring and components working from blueprints, sketches, diagrams, etc.
  • Utilizes trade knowledge and familiarity with plant and equipment to suggest improvements or short cuts as applicable.
  • Directs, instructs, and advises helpers when assigned.
  • Maintains work areas and shop in neat and orderly condition; adheres to all safety requirements.
  • Installs and makes minor repairs to programmable controllers.
  • Keeps abreast of changes in trade methods and practices and new equipment, particularly as they may apply to J&J equipment and processes.
  • Responsible for communicating business related issues or opportunities to next management level.
  • Ensures subordinates follow all Company guidelines related to Health, Safety and Environmental practices and that all resources needed to do so are available and in good condition, if applicable.
  • Ensures personal and Company compliance with all Federal, State, local and Company regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Works in a team environment behaving in a CREDO based respectful manner.
  • Complies with all federally regulated programs.
  • Adheres to J&J environmental and safety policies and guidelines.
  • Complies with all job specific safety procedures and utilizes PPE when necessary.

  • Supports Maintenance Excellence (ME2) including 6S and Operator Asset Care.
  • Accurately completes records as defined within the job procedures (e.g. manual and/or electronic documentation).
  • Performs other work-related duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Consistently meets required Training due date targets.
