About The Position

Applies basic and some advanced technical skills and knowledge in the build, assemble and fabrication of wire harnesses, cable assemblies, control panels, test sets and repair items of the same operational capability and complexity that are used in operational aircraft and related equipment. Perform any of the detailed work operations required to be completed in these areas.

Requirements

Minimum Vocational / Technical.
If applicable, a combination of experience and training may be substituted for the education requirement.
2-4 year(s) Aircraft electrical test equipment, control boxes or wire harness fabrication.
year(s) Aerospace, defense or UAV systems
Competency in the operation and use of electrical and electronic test equipment.
Reads and comprehends electrical wiring diagrams, schematic diagrams and technical manuals and applies the information to build and repair aircraft and/or related equipment wire harnesses, control panels and test equipment.
Proficient in crimping, soldering and cable routing techniques
Familiarity with test equipment, i.e. multimeter, continuity tester, etc.)
Working knowledge with environmental considerations, i.e. vibration, thermal, EMI shielding
Ability to support rapid protyping and iterative development environments
Good attention to detail and commitment to quality
Certification – IPC/WHMA-A620 (Level 2), without Level 1

Responsibilities

Performs fabrication and assembly of wire harnesses, control panels, test sets and other electrical items for aircraft applications using products and processes are varied but generally not complex in scope. The level of work performed requires some skill and experience.
Plans sequence of operations in fabricating and assembling wire harnesses using jig boards, work instructions, wiring diagrams and other information. Reads instructions such as work orders, diagrams, and wire lists to determine materials needed and sequence of assembly. Interpret wiring diagrams, pinouts and BOMs.
Install and route harnesses within aircraft and/or related structures, ensuring proper strain relief and protection.
Selects wires of specified color, marking, or length, and loops wires between guide pegs on harness board, following color-coded lines or sequential numbers on board or diagram. Wraps and ties wires together at designated points to form harness.
Applies sealing liquid to secure knots in ties. Attaches ends of wires to components, plugs, or terminal strip.
Inserts cable in plastic tubing or injects plastic sealant around terminals to protect cable from dust and moisture. Tests wiring continuity with continuity tester. Marks identifying data on completed harness.
Assembles component parts and wires into subassemblies by installing plugs, terminals, splicing plates, plastic sleeving, cutting, stripping, crimping, soldering, terminating nuts, bolts, screws and other like items. Route wire to proper terminals and connectors. Performs other related work such as assembly, disassembly, and rework, drilling holes in metal, soldering of plugs, adapters and connectors.
Conducts continuity checks, insulation resistance testing and functional testing; troubleshoot and repair electrical issues in assemblies and systems; maintain documentation, redlines and as-built configurations.
Ensure compliance with quality standards and workmanship requirements.
Works with engineering to improve designs for manufacturability and reliability.
Performs other duties as required. These duties may include assignments in job classifications and departments other than the primary assignment.
