About The Position

The Electrical Trades II position ensures the availability and distribution of electrical power to the CU Denver campuses, for use by, but not limited to the following systems: energy management (EMCS), lighting, power for telecommunications, computer network, and a multitude of other power applications. Inspects, repairs, and performs preventive maintenance on electrical systems.

Requirements

Current, valid licensure as a journeyman electrician from the Colorado Electrical Board.
Must be a resident of Colorado at the time of application.
Must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
Must possess and maintain a current, valid State of Colorado Driver’s License.
Must be willing and able to pass a criminal background check, motor vehicle checks and drug test.
Subject to pre-employment, post-accident, incident, or reasonable suspicion drug and alcohol testing per UCD Facilities Operations Department Policies.
Must be willing and able to stand and walk on a constant basis, with or without accommodation.
Must be willing and able to climb, crawl, kneel, bend and reach above shoulders on a frequent basis, with or without accommodation.
Must be willing and able to lift and carry up to 10 pounds on a constant basis, with or without accommodation.

This position has been designated as essential personnel, and will be required to respond to emergencies as needed.
Position may also be required to stay late, come in early, or cover shifts as needed.
Must be willing and able to provide effective off-hours phone contact information for emergency call-in purposes.

Responsibilities

Installs various kinds of raceways, wiring, boxes, supports, fastening devices, lighting fixtures, electrical panels, receptacles, switches, fuse-holders, relays, HVAC controls, and other devices.
Using test equipment and wiring diagrams, determine the origin of problems with worn out and/or malfunctioning electrical components. Determine whether identical components can be used or if new improved technology can be utilized to affect a more efficient repair and future operation.
Installations and repairs need to conform with CU Anschutz Medical Campus construction standards and National Electrical Code (NEC) requirements.
Meets with internal and external constituents to determine their needs then provides pricing information. If the pricing is within constituent’s budget, determines scheduling and methods by which to perform the work.
Provides training and assistance to non-electrical CU Denver staff on electrical repairs and new installations to ensure compliance with electrical code, CU Denver Construction Standards, accepted good trade practices.
Provides training on ballast replacement and basic electrical troubleshooting skills.
Receives PM work orders, performs preventive maintenance on assigned installed equipment, logs and reports as required. Operates university vehicle to transport necessary tools/equipment to work sites across campus.
Determines if non-electrical CU Denver staff should be doing any electrical work whatsoever.
