About The Position

The Electrical Test Technician is an advanced level role responsible for the assembly, wiring, testing and troubleshooting of transformer testing equipment for distribution transformers (1 phase and 3 phase pole and pad mount transformers, dry type transformers). As an experienced technician, this role involves providing technical support on complex projects, mentoring less experienced technicians and solving wiring and assembly related issues. This role will be onsite in Raleigh, NC. Relocation Assistance is available.

Requirements

  • 2 year degree in electrical and electronics technology.
  • 8-10 years of experience in electrical technology, transformer testing, field service with a focus on transformer or related product testing and troubleshooting.
  • Proven ability to perform the electrical tests and interpret the results.
  • Extensive experience with electrical testing of transformers and testing equipment.
  • Experience and knowledge of industry standards (e.g., UL, CSA, IEEE, IEC, NEMA) and regulatory requirements for transformers or components.
  • Must have basic computer skills
  • Experience with reading electrical diagrams and schematics.
  • Experience with wiring of control cubicles and assembly of electrical parts.
  • Problem-solving abilities, capable of addressing technical challenges independently.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple complex projects and priorities.

Nice To Haves

  • Machining, mechanical assembly, and use of CAD tools.
  • Lab management, including equipment calibration tracking, engineering materials inventory.
  • Safety systems, standards, and procedures such as MSDS, interlocks, LOTO, NFPA and OSHA.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of electrical tests including ratio, resistance, power factor, high power tests, Temperature Rise Test, high voltage tests including Impulse, Applied, Partial Discharge as per standards (e.g., UL, CSA, IEEE, IEC, NEMA).
  • Must have a high level of safety awareness and perform work in a safe manner.
  • Perform assembly of sensitive electrical and electronic equipment.
  • Reading electrical diagrams/schematics and making the wiring based on the drawings.
  • Troubleshooting and fixing errors in drawings and applying the corrections in final assembly.
  • Testing the final equipment as per standards and instructions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, quality assurance, and supply chain, to ensure seamless integration of designs into production.
  • Mentor and guide junior technicians by offering technical expertise, support, and development opportunities.
  • Inform the engineers regarding the potential improvements.
