About The Position

R&P is looking for a Senior Marine Electrician who wants to join our team. We are a defense contractor providing Engineering, Logistics, Program Management and Technical Services to government clients. We are looking for a Senior Electrical Test Technician ready to join a fast-paced and exciting work environment. This job is ideal for U.S. Navy veterans and U.S. Merchant Mariners (credentialed). Candidates must be comfortable with and confident in their abilities to test 4160VAC to 450VAC electrical systems.

Requirements

  • Must be a Marine Electrician with a minimum of 9-14 years relevant experience working in ship repair onboard US Navy ships (technical education may be substituted for a portion of the experience requirement)
  • Must have experience and multi-pin copper connector certification of cables per Navy Standard Item 009-73 (MIL-STD-2003-5)
  • Cableway Certification NAVSEA Standard Item 009-73 & MIL-STD-2003-4A.
  • Must be familiar with NAVY Standard Items
  • Ability to read, understand and follow customer work item requirements, drawings, blueprints and wiring diagrams.
  • Individual must have a keen attention to detail and be quality metric driven
  • Must be a US citizen with the ability to obtain/maintain a DoD Secret security clearance (current active Secret clearance is a plus).
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Navy CAC credentials
  • Successful completion of Navy “A” School (“C” School is a plus) or successful completion of a Shipyard or commercial Electrical apprenticeship program
  • Proven experience as an electrician
  • Experience in marine electrical systems
  • Prior experience supervising other personnel
  • Demonstrable ability to use electrical and hand tools (e.g. wire strippers, voltmeter, various test equipment etc.)
  • Demonstrate ability to build MIL-SPEC connectors of various types and sizes using both soldering and crimping techniques
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving ability
  • Excellent physical condition with the ability to lift 50 pounds on your own
  • Willingness to travel to various locations in support of ship maintenance availabilities
  • Flexibility with regards to scheduling and planned support due to constant Navy movement
  • Thorough knowledge of safety procedures and guidelines

Nice To Haves

  • Active Fiber certification is a plus, not required.
  • Basic knowledge of fiber optics perferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and maintain complex electrical distribution systems, including diesel generators (4160VAC to 450VAC), vital/emergency power, motor controllers, switchboards, load centers, lighting, and UPS systems.
  • Analyze system interdependencies to ensure electrical distribution seamlessly integrates with and supports other critical shipboard infrastructure.
  • Interpret complex engineering documentation with high proficiency, including electrical one-line diagrams, piping schematics, shipyard work specifications, and technical manuals.
  • Enforce rigorous safety protocols, demonstrating a deep commitment to the shipboard Tag-Out Program, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) measures, and Work Authorization Forms (WAF).
  • Navigate Navy testing processes by applying familiarity with the Navy’s Groom Process, Test Memorandums, and Shipboard Test Procedures.
  • Interface effectively with maritime governing bodies, leveraging prior experience collaborating with NAVSEA, SUPSHIP, RMCs, and INSURV.
  • Support Machinery Control Systems (MCS), utilizing a solid understanding of system integration, DAU, EDGE software, network backbones, and PLCs.
