  • Experience: 2+ years of hands-on electrical assembly, wiring, or technician experience in a lab, manufacturing, or prototype environment.
  • Local to Austin, TX: Must be able to report on-site daily for the full 3-month contract duration.
  • Wiring and termination proficiency: Demonstrated ability to read electrical schematics and wiring diagrams and translate them into correctly wired assemblies.
  • Hand tool and power tool proficiency: Skilled with crimpers, wire strippers, torque wrenches, drill presses, band saws, and bench grinders.
  • Test equipment familiarity: Comfortable using digital multimeters, Megger/insulation testers, clamp meters, and oscilloscopes at a basic level.
  • Mechanical aptitude: Ability to drill, tap, mount components, and perform basic mechanical assembly tasks alongside electrical work.
  • Attention to detail: Meticulous approach to wire routing, labeling, torque specs, and workmanship quality.
  • Self-starter with strong work ethic: Ability to work independently once given clear direction, and proactively flag issues to the engineering team.

Nice To Haves

  • Medium- or high-voltage experience: Hands-on work with systems above 480 VAC or 800 VDC.
  • IPC/WHMA-A-620 workmanship awareness: Familiarity with cable and wire harness workmanship standards.
  • Power electronics exposure: Prior experience in a power electronics, inverter, or energy storage lab environment.
  • PLC and controls wiring: Experience wiring PLC I/O modules, relay logic panels, and industrial control systems.

Responsibilities

  • Rack and cabinet build-up: Assemble electrical components, power supplies, contactors, breakers, fuses, terminal blocks, DIN rail hardware, and control devices onto 19-inch racks, NEMA cabinets, and prototype skids per engineering drawings and layouts.
  • Point-to-point wiring: Route, terminate, label, and verify power and signal wiring per wiring diagrams, schematics, and wire lists; perform point-to-point continuity checks and ring-out before power-on.
  • Connector and terminal termination: Crimp, solder, and terminate connectors including ring terminals, ferrules, Deutsch connectors, Anderson connectors, and multi-pin control connectors per manufacturer specifications.
  • Cable harness fabrication: Build cable harnesses from cut sheets and harness drawings, including wire cutting, stripping, crimping, labeling, lacing, and strain relief installation.
  • Power distribution assembly: Install and wire busbars, fuse holders, disconnect switches, power distribution blocks, and grounding systems per single-line diagrams and electrical schematics.
  • Instrumentation and sensor installation: Mount and wire voltage transducers, current transformers (CTs), thermocouples, RTDs, pressure sensors, and other measurement devices.
  • Testing support: Assist engineers with Hi-Pot, insulation resistance (Megger), functional checkout, and power-on commissioning of assembled systems; record test data and flag anomalies.
  • Labeling and documentation: Apply wire labels, terminal markers, and component ID tags per labeling standards; maintain as-built redline drawings and build logs.
  • Safety and housekeeping: Follow lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures, maintain a clean and organized work area, and adhere to all EHS requirements for work on energized and de-energized electrical equipment.
