Electrical Technician
About The Position
Corning is a world leader in glass, ceramic, and materials science, known for pushing the boundaries of innovation. Our Optical Communications segment provides industry-leading optical solutions across the communications industry, encompassing both carrier and enterprise networks. The Role Purpose is to provide hands-on electrical support for the installation, commissioning, and startup of manufacturing equipment within Corning’s Fiber Capital Projects (FCP) team. This role collaborates with engineering teams to deliver safe and reliable automation systems for domestic and international capital projects.
Requirements
- Strong knowledge of industrial electrical systems (480VAC and below) and schematics.
- Experience with PLC-based automation and industrial control systems.
- Ability to troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and controls issues.
- Experience coordinating contractors and installation activities.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and hands-on technical skills.
- Knowledge of OSHA, NEC, and NFPA safety standards.
Nice To Haves
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 2+ years of manufacturing or industrial automation experience.
- Experience with equipment installation and commissioning preferred.
- Experience with Allen-Bradley, Beckhoff, or B&R PLCs.
- SCADA/HMI and industrial automation experience.
- AutoCAD or AutoCAD Electrical experience.
- Optical fiber manufacturing experience.
Responsibilities
- Install, commission, start up, and troubleshoot manufacturing equipment.
- Support testing, debugging, and turnover of automated systems to operations.
- Coordinate contractors and maintenance teams during installation and construction activities.
- Support project planning, scheduling, and execution with safety and quality compliance.
- Troubleshoot electrical and controls issues and implement corrective actions.
- Modify PLC logic, I/O, and control sequences as needed.
- Update electrical documentation, drawings, and equipment specifications.
- Work with integrators and engineering teams to deploy equipment.
- Support material procurement and installation readiness.
- Train maintenance and technical staff on equipment installation and operation.
- Support continuous improvement of installation and equipment performance.
