About The Position

The Electrical Technical Lead serves as the subject matter expert and technical authority for all electrical systems associated with the Corpus Christi Desalination Plant. This role is responsible for ensuring that electrical designs, equipment selections, power distribution strategies, and control interfaces are safe, reliable, constructible, energy efficient, and fully compliant with contractual, regulatory, and performance requirements. The Electrical Technical Lead works closely with the Engineering Manager, Mechanical and Process Technical Leads, SCADA/Instrumentation teams, Construction, Procurement, and Operations to support project delivery from detailed design through construction, commissioning, and handover to O&M.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline, master’s degree preferred.
  • Proven experience in electrical engineering for large industrial, water, wastewater, or desalination facilities.
  • Proven experience with medium‑voltage power distribution, large motor drives, and complex utility interfaces.
  • Deep expertise in electrical power systems for industrial facilities.
  • Strong cross‑disciplinary coordination and communication skills.
  • Practical, field‑oriented engineering mindset.
  • Ability to support fast‑paced construction and commissioning environments.

Responsibilities

  • Lead technical oversight of all electrical systems, including: Medium‑ and low‑voltage power distribution, Substations and switchgear, Motor control centers (MCCs) and variable frequency drives (VFDs), Backup power and emergency systems, Grounding, lightning protection, and hazardous area classifications.
  • Act as the primary electrical escalation point for technical issues across the project.
  • Ensure electrical systems are aligned with process, mechanical, and operational requirements.
  • Review and approve electrical engineering deliverables prepared by internal teams, consultants, and vendors.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards (e.g., NEC, IEEE, NFPA, NEMA, OSHA, and relevant utility requirements).
  • Participate in interdisciplinary design reviews, HAZOP/HAZID, operability, and constructability reviews.
  • Coordinate electrical interfaces with mechanical/process equipment, SCADA, and instrumentation systems.
  • Ensures Electrical Design meets required maturity at each milestone.
  • Support electrical design for high‑energy consumers such as: High‑pressure pumps, Energy recovery devices (ERDs), Large rotating equipment.
  • Oversee power quality, harmonic analysis, short‑circuit studies, arc‑flash studies, and protection coordination.
  • Support grid interconnection requirements and coordination with the local utility.
  • Support the estimation process for all electrical procurement and installation.
  • Support procurement of major electrical equipment and packages.
  • Review vendor technical submittmits, load lists, single‑line diagrams, protection schemes, and calculations.
  • Participate in vendor evaluations, FATs, and technical clarifications as required.
  • Ensure vendor designs integrate seamlessly into the plant electrical architecture.
  • Provide technical support during construction for RFIs, field changes, and installation issues.
  • Support testing, energization, commissioning, and performance verification of electrical systems.
  • Coordinate electrical readiness with commissioning and operations teams.
  • Assist in troubleshooting during start‑up and early operations.
  • Ensure electrical designs and installations meet safety‑by‑design principles.
  • Support environmental and permit compliance as it relates to electrical systems.
  • Ensure proper documentation turnover, including as‑built drawings and O&M manuals.
