About The Position

Great Lakes Energy is looking for an Electrical Technician I to support our electrical distribution system through metering, communications, automation, and power quality initiatives. Help us deliver safe, reliable electric service to the members and communities we proudly serve! For over 85 years, Great Lakes Energy has powered rural communities across 26 counties in western and northern Michigan. As the third-largest Michigan-based electric utility and the state's largest member-owned power company, we serve over 128,000 meters with pride. Beyond delivering reliable electricity, we are leaders in advanced fiber technology through Truestream, our communication solutions subsidiary. At Great Lakes Energy, we prioritize enriching the lives of our community members and employees. With over 300 team members, we're more than just colleagues, we're a close-knit family, united by a shared vision of growth, innovation, and community service. In this role, you'll work in the field supporting the technology and equipment that help keep our electrical distribution system operating safely and efficiently. Your day may include installing, testing, troubleshooting, and maintaining metering equipment, communications systems, and distribution automation technologies across our service territory. You'll assist with Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) systems, metering endpoints, fiber-connected communications equipment, and SCADA and distribution automation devices. You'll also support the installation, programming, and maintenance of equipment such as reclosers, regulators, capacitors, and protective devices that help improve system reliability. You'll investigate power quality concerns, analyze data, troubleshoot technical issues, and collaborate with Engineering, Operations, contractors, and line crews to complete projects and resolve service challenges. You'll help certify distributed energy systems such as solar and wind installations, assist with power theft investigations, and support members by helping address high-bill concerns and sharing energy-saving recommendations. Additional responsibilities include maintaining equipment records, managing inventory, refurbishing metering equipment, and supporting ongoing technology upgrades throughout our electric system. During storm restoration events, you'll play a critical role supporting field operations and helping restore power safely and efficiently.
