Electrical Systems Engineer

ChromoLogic•Monrovia, CA

About The Position

ChromoLogic LLC is an innovation and R&D company developing technologies for medical, aerospace, and security applications. The Electrical Systems Engineer takes embedded products from concept through prototype and production readiness, with ownership spanning system architecture, custom electronics, firmware, bench work, validation, and manufacturing support. The role works across electronics, embedded software, optics, sensors, communications, and mechanical systems, and contributes to technical decisions from the outset. The engineer translates requirements into practical system architectures and production-ready electronic designs, develops embedded firmware, assembles and troubleshoots prototypes, and helps make prototypes reliable and manufacturable products. The role collaborates with software, mechanical, optical, manufacturing, and product teams, and supports prototype builds, design verification, suppliers, production ramp, and investigation of field issues.

Requirements

  • BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • Typically 5+ years of relevant experience spanning embedded hardware, firmware, PCB design, and prototype development.
  • Experience designing microcontroller-based electronics and writing C/C++ for resource-constrained systems.
  • Practical PCB design skills, including stack-up planning, grounding, mixed-signal or high-speed layout, power integrity, EMC considerations, and design for manufacturing.
  • Confidence assembling and modifying prototypes, probing signals, and systematically isolating problems at the bench.
  • Ability to explain technical decisions clearly and collaborate across engineering disciplines.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with microcontroller platforms such as ARM Cortex/STM32, AVR, PIC, or similar devices.
  • Experience with bare-metal or RTOS-based embedded architectures.
  • Experience with interfaces such as BLE, CAN, SPI, I²C, UART, and USB.
  • Experience with EDA tools such as Altium, KiCad, Eagle, or comparable tools.
  • Strong fundamentals, demonstrated project ownership, and the ability to learn unfamiliar technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Own product design from requirements through production readiness.
  • Translate product requirements into system architectures and production-ready electronic designs.
  • Create schematics and multilayer PCB layouts using EDA tools such as Altium, KiCad, or Eagle.
  • Select components considering performance, availability, reliability, manufacturability, board space, and cost.
  • Collaborate with software, mechanical, optical, manufacturing, and product teams on system-level tradeoffs.
  • Develop, debug, and maintain embedded firmware in C/C++.
  • Implement bare-metal or RTOS-based architectures appropriate to timing, reliability, and resource requirements.
  • Integrate and validate interfaces including BLE, CAN, SPI, I²C, UART, and USB.
  • Assemble and modify prototypes using SMD soldering, fine-pitch rework, wiring, cable crimping, and enclosure integration.
  • Lead board bring-up and troubleshoot interactions among hardware, firmware, sensors, power, and communications.
  • Use lab equipment to investigate failures and verify performance.
  • Develop test procedures and validate designs under real operating conditions.
  • Create design and firmware documentation, test procedures, and manufacturing packages.
  • Support prototype builds, design verification, supplier coordination, and production ramp.
  • Investigate field issues and apply findings to improve designs.
