About The Position

We are looking for an experienced Electrical Systems Design Engineer to support the design, installation, and ongoing improvement of electrical control systems used in overhead cranes and industrial lifting equipment. This onsite position is ideal for an engineer with experience in crane electrical systems, motor controls, and industrial automation who enjoys working on both new equipment and modernization projects. You will collaborate with engineering, project management, and field personnel to deliver reliable, safe, and code-compliant crane control solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of controls engineering experience, preferably supporting overhead cranes, lifting equipment, or other heavy industrial systems.
  • Hands-on experience with: PLC programming (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar platforms), HMI and SCADA systems, Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), Motor control systems
  • Ability to develop and interpret electrical schematics and control system documentation.
  • Experience with industrial communication protocols such as EtherNet/IP, Modbus, or similar networks.
  • Strong understanding of crane motion control, including hoist, trolley, and bridge functions.
  • Working knowledge of CMAA, NFPA 70 (NEC), and ASME B30 requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with automated crane technologies, including anti-sway controls or load monitoring systems.
  • Background in industrial system integration and equipment commissioning.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Comfortable working in industrial facilities and at elevated heights when required.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

  • Design electrical control systems for overhead cranes and material handling equipment.
  • Develop and modify PLC programs, HMI interfaces, and control logic for crane motion applications.
  • Create and review electrical schematics, panel layouts, and wiring diagrams.
  • Select and integrate components including variable frequency drives (VFDs), relays, sensors, and safety devices.
  • Ensure control system designs comply with CMAA, NFPA 70 (NEC), and ASME B30 standards.
  • Support or lead equipment installation, startup, and commissioning activities.
  • Configure PLCs, VFDs, and industrial communication networks.
  • Perform system testing, validation, and operational performance checks.
  • Optimize system performance during commissioning and after implementation.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex electrical and automation issues affecting crane systems.
  • Provide technical assistance to maintenance personnel and field service teams.
  • Support modernization projects, retrofits, and control system upgrades.
  • Work closely with project managers, mechanical engineers, electricians, and technicians throughout project execution.
  • Share technical knowledge and provide guidance to junior engineers and technical staff.
  • Participate in continuous improvement efforts focused on equipment reliability, safety, and operational efficiency.
