About The Position

The City of Oakland is currently recruiting to fill two (2) Electrical Supervisor vacancies within the Department of Transportation. Requirements

Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.
Five (5) years of experience as an electrician in the maintenance and repair of a variety of electrical systems and equipment, including two years in a supervisory or lead role.
Certification as a Journeyman Electrician. (Note: Certification must demonstrate successful completion of an electrical apprenticeship program or recognition as a Journeyman Electrician by a state licensing authority.)
Successful incumbents in this position are expected to operate automotive vehicles in the performance of assigned duties.
Individuals who are appointed to this position will be required to maintain a valid California Driver's License throughout the tenure of employment OR demonstrate the ability to travel to various locations in a timely manner as required in the performance of duties.

Responsibilities

Coordinating with staff and outside contractors to ensure electrical work is properly planned and completed.
Scheduling daily and swing-shift assignments, standby coverage, and after-hours response to ensure adequate staffing.
Collaborating with the other supervisors to coordinate work, address challenges, and achieve shared department goals.
Assigning work orders and service requests, monitoring progress, and reviewing completed work in Cityworks to ensure requests are properly addressed and documented.
Managing employee timecard entries, tracking expenditures, and monitoring the unit’s budget and resources.
Conducting employee performance reviews, addressing performance concerns, and handling employee relations matters.
Ordering and tracking materials, tools, equipment, and other supplies while monitoring inventory levels and assessing future needs.
Training and mentoring employees on work procedures, equipment, safety practices, and other skills needed to perform their jobs effectively.
Transition from hands-on electrical work to a supervisory role that requires learning new responsibilities, including managing staff, making decisions, and overseeing work rather than performing the work yourself.
Adapting to changing staffing levels, available resources, and priorities, including responding to emergencies and working independently when unexpected situations arise.
Troubleshooting complex electrical and traffic signal issues, interpreting plans and drawings in relation to actual field conditions, and learning administrative systems such as Oracle and iProcurement.

Vacation: 2 weeks per year minimum with the ability to accrue more depending on public sector years of service
Retirement: CalPERS (California Public Employees’ Retirement System) with a pension formula of 2.5% @ 55 (for Classic CalPERS members) and 2% @ 62 for new CalPERS members. Classic Employees contribute 8% of pre-tax wages.
The City of Oakland does not participate in Social Security
