About The Position

Kent is looking for an Electrical Superintendent to support site execution activities at Kearl. This role is responsible for overseeing and coordinating electrical construction activities in the field, ensuring work is executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project specifications, quality standards, and schedule requirements. The Electrical Superintendent serves as a key liaison among Construction, Engineering, Quality, Contractors, and the Client to ensure the successful execution of electrical scopes, including power distribution, cable installation, grounding, lighting, MCCs, instrumentation interface coordination, and support for the installation and commissioning of electrical equipment. This is a site-based, hands-on leadership role that requires strong field execution experience, technical expertise, and the ability to lead contractor teams in a dynamic industrial environment. The position works closely with the Client Construction Management Team (CMT), Home Office Engineering, and contractor supervision teams to support safe and efficient project delivery. This is a fly-in/fly-out project with a 14/7 shift schedule, 10-hour shifts, and camp accommodations at Wapasu.

Requirements

  • Journeyperson Electrician certification or Electrical Engineering Technology diploma/degree preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of electrical construction experience in oil & gas, mining, oil sands, or heavy industrial projects.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a supervisory or superintendent role managing electrical field execution activities.
  • Strong understanding of industrial electrical systems, installation practices, and construction methodologies.
  • Familiarity with applicable electrical codes and standards, including Canadian Electrical Code (CEC), CSA, IEEE, and project-specific standards.
  • Experience coordinating with Quality, Commissioning, and Engineering teams during project execution.
  • Strong command of the English language, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to communicate technical and construction-related information clearly and effectively.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong leadership and team coordination skills in a field construction environment.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary project environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in oil sands mining, SAGD, or large-scale industrial construction projects is considered a strong asset.
  • Working knowledge of construction management software, Microsoft Office Suite, and drawing review tools such as Navisworks or Bluebeam is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee electrical construction activities in accordance with project specifications, IFC drawings, procedures, and applicable codes and standards.
  • Supervise contractor execution of electrical scopes, including cable tray installation, cable pulling and termination, grounding systems, lighting systems, MCCs, transformers, switchgear, heat tracing, and electrical equipment installation.
  • Coordinate and monitor field execution activities to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with project schedule and quality requirements.
  • Support troubleshooting and resolution of field installation and constructability issues in coordination with Engineering and Quality teams.
  • Review electrical drawings, specifications, work packages, and technical documentation to support field execution activities.
  • Ensure engineering intent is properly understood and implemented in the field.
  • Coordinate daily electrical construction activities with contractors, Client representatives, Engineering, Quality, and other discipline teams.
  • Participate in daily coordination meetings, planning sessions, and schedule reviews to support construction execution priorities.
  • Assist in the development and execution of look-ahead plans and construction work fronts.
  • Support tracking and resolution of contractor technical queries (TQs), Requests for Information (RFIs), and field changes.
  • Conduct regular field walks to monitor progress, identify deficiencies, and support punch list resolution activities.
  • Coordinate electrical interface activities with mechanical, piping, instrumentation, and commissioning teams.
  • Promote and enforce a strong safety culture in alignment with Kent, Client, and site HSSEQ expectations.
  • Ensure all electrical work is performed in accordance with approved procedures, specifications, quality requirements, and applicable electrical codes and standards.
  • Support inspection and testing activities in coordination with Quality and Commissioning teams.
  • Participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, incident investigations, and field safety audits as required.
  • Monitor contractor compliance with site safety procedures, permits, and environmental requirements.
  • Serve as a key communication link between Construction, Engineering, Quality, Contractors, and Client stakeholders.
  • Provide regular progress updates, field reports, and issue escalation to Construction Management.
  • Communicate technical and construction-related information clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Foster a collaborative and solutions-oriented team environment across all project disciplines.
