About The Position

The Electrical Senior Estimator will conduct detailed analysis of electrical drawings, one-line diagrams, specifications, engineering deliverables, and contract documents to determine project requirements and scope. This role establishes a critical path schedule including milestone dates and completion timelines to meet contract completion dates for large projects. The position involves comprehensive quantity takeoffs for various electrical systems and leading the pricing of project-specific general requirements, indirect costs, and electrical construction expenses for large industrial and commercial pursuits. The role also includes conducting risk and opportunity analysis, preparing estimate turnover packages, and supporting client presentations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, Engineering Technology, or related field. Equivalent electrical trade experience may be considered.
  • Gold Seal certification in estimating required (CDN).
  • 8-15+ years of electrical estimating experience.
  • Knowledge and understanding of different construction methods, planning, scheduling, sequencing, potential problems, and timelines.
  • Extensive knowledge of key principles involved in bid preparation, including quantity take-off procedures, trade contractor procurement, pricing and bid closing procedures.
  • Expert in understanding and teaching contract terms for various delivery models and able to identify contract risks and opportunity.
  • Understands different bid processes and contract delivery type methods: Hard bid/lump sum, guaranteed maximum price (GMP), unit price, design-build, target prices and construction management/cost reimbursable.
  • Ability to lead successful teams.
  • Resourceful and self-motivated with strong organizational skills and ability to multitask.
  • Strong ability to develop and maintain productive working relationships with owners, peers and industry representatives, and leverage the industry relationships for a competitive advantage.

  • Experience leading estimates exceeding $50M-$500M+ preferred.
  • Experience with industrial facilities, data centers, power generation, substations, renewable energy, or large commercial projects preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct detailed analysis of electrical drawings, one-line diagrams, specifications, engineering deliverables, and contract documents to determine project requirements and scope.
  • Establishes a critical path schedule including milestone dates and completion timelines to meet contract completion dates for large projects.
  • Complete comprehensive quantity takeoffs for power distribution, medium-voltage and low-voltage systems, instrumentation and controls, communications, grounding, lighting, and raceway systems.
  • Lead pricing of project-specific general requirements, indirect costs, and electrical construction expenses for large industrial and commercial pursuits.
  • Develop critical path estimating schedules and milestone timelines to support bid submissions and project delivery requirements.
  • Conduct risk and opportunity analysis related to electrical scope execution, labor productivity, procurement strategies, and material availability.
  • Complete estimate turnover packages, bid recap documentation, and electrical trade buyout strategies in coordination with operations teams.
  • Document and maintain estimate assumptions, pricing strategies, vendor quotations, and supporting electrical estimate data for project handoff upon award.
  • Conducts a risk and opportunity analysis for review by chief estimator to add into risk register.
  • Support client presentations and explain electrical scope, pricing methodology, schedule considerations, and risk mitigation strategies during estimate reviews.
  • Monitors client project-specific success criteria (CPSSC); specifically understands owners’ business, requirements, revenue generation, and provides solutions. Holds team accountable and challenges team and project to find creative solutions for overall project benefit.
