About The Position

Individual is responsible for the consistent enforcement and administration of the codes, standards, and county regulations pertinent to construction. Individual reports to the Lead Electrical Safety Inspector. This position involves a one-year training program where the trainee must complete the Board of Building Standards Academy, pass required examinations, and obtain full State of Ohio Certification as an Electrical Safety Inspector. Upon successful completion, trainees will be advanced to Electrical Safety Inspector.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Two (2) years of experience in the installation of electrical systems subject to inspection
  • Must be granted approval from the Ohio Department of Commerce Board of Building Standards to begin a (1) one-year training program at the time of hire and prior to starting
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
  • Must meet and maintain qualifications for driving on county business as a continued condition of employment
  • All required licenses and certificates must be maintained as a condition of continued employment

Responsibilities

  • Inspects buildings for electrical code compliance
  • Addresses questions relating to compliance with building codes of county, both over the phone and in person
  • Completes data entry of inspection results, when necessary
  • Completes all assignments and training assigned for the Board of Building Standards Academy and additional training assigned by Delaware County
  • Researches code related questions and provides interpretation of National Electrical Code
  • Plans out daily inspections in an efficient manner
  • Supports Building Safety programs and other programs by working with local agencies, attending meetings, conferences, workshops, training sessions, and performing a variety of public relations duties
  • Devises correspondence, completing forms and developing reports associated with the Building Safety operation
  • Handles client complaints and public inquiries regarding programs
  • Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance
  • Holds as confidential, all aspects of the job
  • Performs typing, word processing, and related computer operations
  • Works overtime and outside of typical work schedule/business hours as required
  • Performs other duties as required
