About The Position

Hazen and Sawyer is seeking a Mid-Level Electrical Engineer for our Hartford (Wethersfield), CT office. As part of our Electrical team you will have exceptional opportunities to provide superior solutions to our clients’ most difficult problems through a variety of water related assignments. Qualified candidates will provide electrical engineering and design for water and wastewater facility projects, serving as lead electrical engineer when required. In addition to supporting projects both local and regional to the office, the selected candidate will support projects in other areas as requested by the firm. Requirements

  • Knowledge in industrial power design, including medium and low voltage electrical power distribution, motor control, VFDs, lighting systems, equipment layout and related activities.
  • Good working knowledge of the NEC and related Codes.
  • Good communication skills, including interaction with clients and contractors.
  • AutoCAD experience is a must.
  • Professional Engineering License is required.
  • 5-10 years in electrical engineering and design.
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.

Nice To Haves

  • Revit BIM software and SKM power systems software is desirable.
  • Experience with instrumentation and control systems is a plus, including field and panel instruments, operator interfaces, and PLCs.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the lead electrical engineer on projects for water and wastewater facilities.
  • Supervise less experienced staff working on projects, and interact with clients and engineers from other disciplines.
  • Perform power systems design, including medium and low voltage electrical power distribution, generator design, motor controls, VFDs, lighting systems, equipment layout and related activities at water and wastewater facilities.
  • Prepare project specifications and edit corporate electrical master specifications as needed to suit each project.
  • Serve as the lead electrical engineer on multiple concurrent projects, ensuring work is performed in accordance with scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Perform site visits as needed from project conceptual design through construction.
  • Perform electrical design work in AutoCAD and/or Revit as required by the project.
  • Perform electrical power system studies in SKM and/or ETAP as required by the project.
  • Complete construction administration tasks including review of shop drawings, replies to requests for information, change order requests and similar tasks.
  • Perform factory witness testing of electrical equipment as required by the project.
  • Monitor and participate in the field testing and start-up of electrical systems.
  • Represent the electrical discipline in client project meetings.
  • Interact with clients, contractors, and engineers from other disciplines.
  • Serve as a technical mentor for less experienced electrical staff.
  • Assist in business development activities such as proposal preparation.
  • Develop scope and fee documents for electrical portions of projects.
  • Fill the role of Project Manager for selected electrical projects.
