About The Position

Welsbach Electric Corp. (“Welsbach”) is one of the largest commercial electrical contractors in New York City, specializing in outdoor electrical construction and maintenance for government agencies, utilities, and private enterprises. Our headquarters are located in Queens, NY, where we maintain an extensive in-house inventory of materials, tools, and a fleet to provide prompt electrical maintenance services. Our field force consists of highly qualified, IBEW (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers) journeymen electricians and linemen, supported by experienced project management, estimating, engineering, accounting, and administrative personnel. All work processes are guided by an ISO 9001:2015-certified quality management system and an established safety program. The Electrical Project Engineer will assist in the engineering and coordination of electrical work, including drafting and coordination of electrical installation work in accordance with contract documents. This role involves translating contract drawings into 2D and 3D installation drawings, managing clash detection, conflict identification and resolution, incorporating change orders and as-built conditions, and participating in developing project-specific BIM strategies, scope, and planning.

Requirements

1 - 5 years related experience in electrical industry.
High School diploma or GED required.
Knowledge of the electrical construction industry, contract documentation, and the National Electrical Code and design.
Working knowledge of federal, state, and city regulations and guidelines.
Experience performing electrical/construction/engineering calculations.
Proficient in AutoCAD MEP, Revit MEP, and Navisworks.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Outlook, Word and Excel applications.
Conscientiousness, personal responsibility, and dependability.
Ability to adapt to an office environment and act in a principled, ethical fashion.
Skilled in written and verbal communications.

Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and Master of Science in Electrical Engineering desirable but not required.

Responsibilities

Provide support to the Director of Engineering and provide direction in the field regarding technical and quality issues.
Work with the Systems Manager to facilitate and support the testing work being performed in the field.
Work with the Project Manager and Field Supervision to develop Plans for future work.
Under oversight of the Project Manager, maintain schedules and status updates.
Assist in developing and implementing project-specific BIM strategies, scope, and plan for the work.
Utilize Revit MEP or AutoCAD MEP to create installation shop drawings and sketches from contract drawings.
Responsible for layout of electrical systems, including cable trays, conduits and equipment in 3D for BIM coordination.
Participate in customer, project, and design meetings to gather and review project related requirements and resolve conflicts with other trades.
Develop and understand point to point drawings.
Perform basic design calculations (i.e. pulling calculations, duct sizing, etc.) under Engineer direction and review.
Communicate project status to report target delivery, productivity, and quality of design.
Prepare and manage communications internally and with general contractors or construction managers for assigned projects.
Travel to various project sites is required.
Maintain confidentiality of engineering department and company information.
Comply with I.S.O. 9000:2015 operations work instructions, contracts, safety program, and Company established policies and procedures.
Escalate critical and/or sensitive issues to the Director of Engineering or Project Manager with recommendation for resolution.
Perform additional assignments as required by the operating needs of the company or as directed by executives.
