About The Position

The Electrical Practice Lead is responsible for providing design expertise, team oversight, leadership, and mentorship for engineers and designers. This role also supports the marketing team in identifying new pursuits, teaming partners, and opportunities for new work. The Practice Lead must be able to respond to technical RFPs, develop fee proposals, and provide technical writing. Additional contributions include effective coordination with project stakeholders, teaming partners, scheduling, and resourcing staff to meet project needs. The position is responsible for design oversight and technical quality of work produced, maintaining a high standard of quality and meeting corporate expectations. The Electrical Practice Lead is also tasked with building a positive and supportive work environment for employees.

Requirements

  • Strong leadership and organizational abilities
  • Willingness to build professional relationships with staff and clients
  • Proficient with software, such as Excel, Bluebeam, MS Office Suite, SharePoint, Newforma, and Vision
  • Advanced knowledge of codes, standards, and regulations such as BICSI, NEC, NFPA, and the International Code Council family of codes (ICC Codes)
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize while being detailed and safety-oriented
  • Excellent communication, motivational, and interpersonal skills
  • Understanding of project management concepts, including but not limited to scheduling, resourcing, budgets, and work breakdown structures
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License required
  • Minimum fifteen years’ experience in a technical capacity reflecting increasing responsibility
  • Must have demonstrated technical strengths in a variety of knowledge areas related to the Practice
  • Must have a strong understanding of the physical and functional requirements of systems related to the Practice, such that direction can be given to design teams

Responsibilities

  • Providing design expertise, team oversight, leadership and mentorship for engineers and designers
  • Supporting the marketing team to identify new pursuits, teaming partners and opportunities for new work
  • Responding to technical RFP’s
  • Developing fee proposals
  • Providing technical writing
  • Effective coordination with project stakeholders, teaming partners, scheduling, and resourcing of the right staff to meet the project needs
  • Providing design oversight and technical quality of work produced
  • Maintaining a high-level standard of quality, meeting corporate expectations
  • Building a positive and supportive work environment for employees
  • Providing technical leadership and guidance to the engineering team as the Practice Subject Matter Expert for electrical power and lighting design
  • Managing and mentoring a team of electrical engineers and designers to ensure they are motivated, productive, and aligned with the company’s goals
  • Creating high morale among employees
  • Identifying areas for process improvement and implementing changes to increase efficiency and productivity
  • Delegating the responsibility of the Engineer of Record for projects
  • Acting as the Engineer of Record to sign and seal documents, as applicable to a specific discipline, when required
  • Collaborating with Project Managers and other Practice Leads to ensure that projects are properly staffed to ensure project success
  • Establishing standards for Quality Assurance throughout the design process
  • Overseeing and contributing to Quality Control reviews at project milestones
  • Assisting with the development of fee/scope of service proposals, presentations, and interviews for and pursuing future projects
  • Building relationships with existing and potential clients
  • Assisting with recruiting and hiring new staff to join the team
  • Ensuring accountability of staff within Electrical Practice
  • Reporting to the SVP of Planning and Design
  • Reviewing and evaluating the performance of direct and indirect reports within Electrical Practice
  • Overseeing staff utilization, skills matrix, and ensuring that staff is appropriately allocated
  • Monitoring performance metrics and best practices
  • Traveling to project and client sites for presentations, interviews, design, and coordination meetings
  • Fulfilling other essential duties required to fulfill the role in support of company's goals and pursuits
