About The Position

Pratt Community College is seeking an Electrical Power Technology Instructor for its Pratt Campus. This full-time, 9-month faculty position is benefit-eligible and involves teaching Electrical Power Technology classes and labs, ensuring safety procedures, developing and updating curricula, assessing student performance, recruiting and advising students, and maintaining lab equipment. The instructor will also build relationships with local employers for apprenticeships and job placement, provide career guidance, and promote the program through outreach and social media. Faculty development activities and participation in college meetings are also expected. The role requires adherence to college policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • CDL required
  • Journeyman certification required
  • Minimum of 2 years continuous work experience (4000 clock hours) in an electrical power technology position required
  • Must possess working knowledge of OSHA and NESC rules and regulations, standard work practices, and underground distribution knowledge unique to electrical power utilities
  • Ability and interest in teaching
  • Ability to work cooperatively with college and high school instructors
  • Ability and willingness to teach via alternative delivery systems including online and/or other distance education modes
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective professional relationships with staff, students, faculty, and other Pratt Community College
  • Ability to plan, revise, and update curricula
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in a student-centered environment
  • Strong written, verbal, and listening communication skills
  • Ability to understand words and respond effectively and appropriately
  • Visual acuity to view a computer terminal
  • The ability to learn and comprehend basic instructions about the position and its responsibilities is essential

Nice To Haves

  • Associate or higher degree preferred
  • Full-time work experience in electrical power in the construction, operation and maintenance of structures, equipment, and facilities preferred
  • Three years teaching experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Teach Electrical Power Technology classes and labs in Pratt, KS
  • Ensure proper safety procedures are followed
  • Follow the course schedule which may vary by semester
  • Assist in selecting textbooks, develop, plan, revise, and update curricula
  • Implement appropriate instructional activities and supplemental resources to support student learning
  • Assess and evaluate student performance through ongoing grading, feedback, and formal evaluation methods
  • Enter grades and assessment data as required
  • Recruit prospective students and actively support the retention and persistence of currently enrolled students
  • Advise current and prospective students in appropriate curricula and career pathways in the electrical power industry
  • Provide adequate laboratory supervision whenever students are working
  • Maintain lab equipment and make necessary repairs
  • Maintain an equipment inventory
  • Keep the shop in a clean and professional working appearance
  • Build and maintain relationships with local employers, utilities, and contractors to support student apprenticeships and job placement pipelines
  • Provide career guidance to students, including job search support and industry expectations
  • Promote Pratt Community College and the EPT program through social media and community outreach efforts
  • Participate in faculty development activities at the college and within state and regional organizations
  • Maintain records and files as requested by the department and/or Vice President of Instruction
  • Attend faculty, department, advisory, and all-employee meetings
  • Arrive on time for work, attend work regularly, and successfully complete the responsibilities of the position
  • Comply with Pratt Community College policies, procedures, and practices
  • Work closely with faculty within the Electrical Power Technology department
  • Work closely with personnel in admissions and student services
  • Work closely with high schools in our service area
  • Work cooperatively with business and industry representatives to provide advanced level training
