About The Position

The Department of Environmental Services (DES) is seeking a highly motivated, team-oriented, and technically competent Electrical Power Technician (EPT) for their state-of-the-art Wastewater Treatment Plant. This is a 24/7 facility that treats 24 million gallons of wastewater daily. The EPT series is a two-tier, multi-grade pay program designed for various skill levels, from trainee to advanced technical trades. Responsibilities include the design, installation, maintenance, and repair of complex industrial electrical equipment, systems, and instrumentation within the Water Pollution Control Plant (WPCP) and Water and Sewer Lift Stations. The industrial equipment includes medium voltage distribution centers, motor control centers, motors, control panels, alarms, pumps, generators, presses, conveyor belts, lighting systems, and underground cable.

Requirements

High School Diploma/GED or equivalent.
Three (3) years of experience assisting with performing electrical preventive and corrective maintenance (EPT I).
One (1) year in an industrial setting with medium voltage 600V to 4160V systems (EPT I).
Five (5) years of experience independently performing electrical preventive and corrective maintenance (EPT II).
Three (3) years' experience in an industrial setting with medium voltage 600V to 4160V systems (EPT II).
Must possess a NEC Master's Electrician License (EPT II).
Must possess a Confined Space Entry certification (EPT II).
Journeyman Electrical License within three (3) years of hire date (EPT I).
Confined Space Entry certification within one (1) year of hire date (EPT I).
Valid driver's license.
Ability to pass a respirator fit test and work in confined spaces.
Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Must possess, or obtain by time of appointment, a valid driver license.
Applicant must authorize Arlington County to obtain, or provide, a copy of official driving record.
Successful completion of the County's in-house technical training program (EPT II and EPT I).

Nice To Haves

Experience in an industrial electrical control environment which includes assisting with the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair and calibration of electrical controls.
Experience with, and/or knowledge of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and Distributed Control Systems (DCS) programming.
Familiarity with fluid dynamics and hydraulics, OSHA mandates and other federal, state, and local codes relevant to operations.

Responsibilities

Performing predictive, preventive, and corrective maintenance using diagnostic tools, historical data, blueprints, factory specifications, and the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
Performing necessary maintenance, corrective repair, and/or reconditioning of equipment.
Analyzing system failures or conditions to determine root cause or potential for breakdown.
Evaluating problems or work assignments to determine scope, set priorities, project resource needs, and plan follow-up activities.
Leading projects, including documenting work and maintaining records.
Coordinating work with other agencies or contractors.
Assisting in the training of staff.
Evaluating complex electrical industrial systems and equipment to identify maintenance needs and establish project plans for design, predictive, corrective, or preventive action.
Designing, installing, maintaining, and repairing complex industrial electrical equipment and systems (EPT II specific).
Diagnosing and resolving complex electrical problems on a wide variety of equipment in the field (EPT II specific).
Working with heavy equipment such as medium voltage distribution centers, motor control centers, three-phase motors, control panels, alarms, sump pumps, variable speed motor controllers, pumps, generators, presses, conveyor belts, lighting systems, and underground cable (EPT II specific).
Performing diagnostic work up to the Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and Digital Control System (DCS) level (EPT II specific).
