About The Position

Our vision is to transform how the world uses information to enrich life for all. Micron Technology is a world leader in innovating memory and storage solutions that accelerate the transformation of information into intelligence, inspiring the world to learn, communicate and advance faster than ever. The US Expansion Construction team is responsible for the design and construction efforts for high-tech, large-scale projects for Micron in the US. Current projects include two high-volume manufacturing facilities in Boise, Idaho ID1 and ID2, and a greenfield manufacturing facility in Clay, New York. As the NY Electrical Operations Engineer, you will oversee the design, construction and commissioning of electrical systems for cutting edge semiconductor manufacturing facilities. As part of the US Expansion Strategic Programs team at Micron, you will have the unique opportunity to oversee Microns design and construction partners to ensure the project meets the program’s stringent project specifications, performance standards and regulatory requirements from start to finish. This role requires deep technical expertise in electrical systems and processes, strong project management skills, and effective collaboration with multiple stakeholders. Upon completion of the construction and commissioning phase of the program this role will be transitioned to the NY operations engineering group where job responsibilities will transition to operational support and sustaining engineering activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field.
  • 3–5 years of experience in electrical engineering, including design collaboration, construction support, and operational troubleshooting.
  • Proficient in power distribution systems, motor control centers (MCCs), VFDs, and backup/emergency power systems.
  • Familiar with electrical codes and standards such as NEC, NFPA 70E, IEEE, and NETA.
  • Skilled in electrical analysis tools (e.g., ETAP, SKM PowerTools) and BIM platforms (e.g., Revit, Navisworks).
  • Understanding of cybersecurity practices and electrical system safety protocols.
  • Strong communicator with proven ability to work across engineering, construction, and operations teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting electrical systems in high-reliability environments such as semiconductor, pharmaceutical, or data center facilities.
  • Familiarity with electrical system cybersecurity standards (e.g., IEC 62443) and emerging technologies including IoT, smart grid, and Industry 4.0 applications.
  • Proficient in BIM tools and workflows (e.g., Revit, Navisworks) for electrical system documentation, modeling, and integration.
  • Ability to mentor operations staff, promoting technical excellence, safety, and continuous learning in electrical system operations.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee third-party design firms in the development of electrical systems, providing technical input on system architecture, including medium/low-voltage distribution, grounding, surge protection, and equipment layout.
  • Review and validate third-party design deliverables, single-line diagrams, panel schedules, and specifications to ensure they meet constructability and adhere to NEC, IEEE, and client standards.
  • Perform and review load calculations, fault current analysis, arc flash studies, and protective device coordination.
  • Collaborate with external design teams, contractors, vendors, and internal stakeholders to align waste treatment system designs with facility requirements and project timelines.
  • Perform quality assurance and risk assessments on third-party designs, identifying and resolving issues related to regulatory compliance, constructability, or environmental impact.
  • Collaborate with 3rd-party quality teams to ensure construction meets final requirements needed for operations.
  • Support construction by responding to RFIs, reviewing submittals (e.g., switchgear, transformers, VFDs, MCCs), and participating in field coordination and inspections.
  • Oversee commissioning and testing phases by reviewing third-party design performance and coordinating with vendors for equipment validation and system startup.
  • Validate system performance using commissioning data, load testing, and diagnostic tools (e.g., SCADA, power analyzers, thermal imaging).
  • Lead troubleshooting and root cause analysis for faults, power quality issues, and equipment failures; implement corrective actions.
  • Develop and maintain preventive/predictive maintenance programs using CMMS and condition-based monitoring.
  • Monitor system health using ETAP, SKM PowerTools, and field data to proactively identify and resolve issues.
  • Coordinate with OEMs and internal teams for upgrades, firmware updates, and lifecycle management of electrical assets.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, NFPA 70E, IEEE 1584, and NETA ATS/MTS standards.
  • Utilize BIM tools (e.g., Revit, Navisworks) and control systems (e.g., PLC, SCADA) to verify design interoperability and ensure operational efficiency.
  • Monitor project progress, manage design-related risks, and ensure timely delivery of high-quality design deliverables.
  • May require occasional travel to project sites, vendor facilities, or third-party design offices.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple design deliverables and deadlines.
  • Relocation to project location is required.
  • Position is 100% on-site, no hybrid.
