About The Position

Sunset Farm Foods, a leading meat processor specializing in beef sausage, boneless ham, chicken, smoked meats, and other special food products, is seeking a highly skilled Automation Electrical Mechanic to join their team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and optimizing automated electrical systems used in food manufacturing processing. The role involves working with specific equipment and process procedures including Automated Sausage Processing Line (sausage stuffing machines, smokehouses, cooling and freezing systems), Boneless Ham Production Line (ham curing chambers, slicing machines, packaging equipment), Chicken Processing Equipment (chicken deboning machines, washing and sanitizing systems, conveyor belts), Smokehouse Operation (control systems for smoke and temperature regulation, automated timers and alarms for smoke cycles, cleaning and maintenance of smoke generator units), and Special Food Product Processing Equipment (customized machinery for unique food products, control panels and sensors for monitoring and adjusting production variables).

Requirements

  • Possess skills in running conduit, wiring installations, breaker box terminations, and equipment terminations.
  • Familiarity with Allen-Bradley and Siemens operating systems, RS Logic, and powertrain systems such as PowerFlex 5000 or VFD systems.
  • Ability to read and design electrical schematics, diagnose, and wire high, medium, and low-voltage power systems.
  • Proficiency in utilizing tools such as multimeters, amp meters, and Meggers for system diagnostics.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Familiarity with software like Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and Studio Talk 5000.
  • Competence in writing and reading controls code and toggling controls codes effectively.
  • Experience working with PLCs, HMIs, and other automation control systems.
  • Knowledge of food processing regulations and safety standards.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or similar related field/experience.
  • Basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, and repair automated electrical systems in food processing equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose electrical issues to minimize equipment downtime.
  • Perform regular preventive maintenance on all automation equipment to ensure proper functioning.
  • Collaborate with production staff to optimize automation processes for efficiency and quality.
  • Keep accurate records of maintenance activities and equipment performance.
  • Perform other assignments as directed by the General Manager.
