About The Position

Great Basin College is seeking an experienced and motivated Electrical & Instrumentation professional to join our Career and Technical Education team as a Contract Trainer. This is a full-time, twelve-month, non-tenure track position based at the GBC Elko campus and reporting to the Dean of Industrial Technology and Workforce Development. The successful candidate will deliver instruction in a variety of technical areas including electrical systems, instrumentation, safety, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), motor controls, circuit design, electrical code, electrical theory, pressure, flow, temperature, control valves, regulators, and related industrial applications. In addition to college coursework, the incumbent will provide short-term customized training for mining employees and other industry partners as workforce needs align. This position will also be responsible for developing, reviewing, and revising curriculum to ensure courses remain current with industry standards, emerging technologies, and workforce demands. While the position is based at the Elko campus, regular travel throughout the region is required to support instruction and workforce development initiatives. Occasional out-of-state travel may also be required to meet client and partner training needs.

Requirements

  • Certificate of achievement or higher from a regionally accredited institution in Electrical and Instrumentation Technology or related field.
  • Five (5) years of experience in mining-related electrical and instrumentation repair & maintenance is required.
  • Experience with training others in a workforce setting and presentation skills required.
  • Ability to work as a team member with a genuine spirit of cooperation and flexibility.
  • Computer literate in Microsoft Office products.
  • Evidence of ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally.
  • Willingness and ability to travel by car or truck, often pulling a trailer, throughout the state of Nevada and the Western regional area as needed to campus and industry locations, with or without accommodations as per the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Nice To Haves

  • In lieu of a degree, equivalent work experience of more than five (5) years will be considered.
  • Experience in career and technical education and mentoring are strongly preferred.
  • Experience in alternative educational delivery methods or willingness to learn alternative delivery methodology.
  • Post-secondary teaching experience preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Instrumentation Technology preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and teach classes in all aspects of Electrical and Instrumentation Technology.
  • Supervise students in classroom and laboratory settings.
  • Direct, guide, and assess students’ progress in achieving required competencies.
  • Interact with mining and industry partners to enhance community partnerships.
  • May teach evening and distance education classes.
  • Handle administrative responsibilities related to teaching and program support.
  • Represent the college in a professional manner.
  • Participate in college-wide committees and activities as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with the curriculum development team to create training materials that meet the needs of the Nevada mining industry.
  • Assess class outcomes, student engagement, and student satisfaction through self-reflection and student survey, adjusting teaching as necessary to support enrolled trainees.
  • Develop business relationships and build a customer pipeline of targeted prospects in mining and other key sectors to sell GBC Contract Training.
  • Be visible in the community, positively representing GBC at events, community meetings, Chamber activities, and other related happenings.
  • Have the ability to cold-call companies via in-person visits, phone calls, emails, and other communication to develop training leads.
  • Follow-up with leads as appropriate.
  • Provide feedback on GBC Contract Training products, what works, what’s in demand, and what needs to be adjusted to fit the mining clientele.
  • Perform routine maintenance, parts ordering, loading and staging of lab equipment for student usage.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Great Basin College is proud to provide a reduced-rate tuition benefit to faculty and qualified dependents. Faculty can take up to six credits per semester at a reduced rate.
