About The Position

Perform duties to conduct electrical plan reviews and electrical inspections to verify and enforce the EPCOT Electrical Code and compliance with state codes, laws and regulations, while adhering to established policies and precedents.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of methods and materials involved in the installation, maintenance and operation of a variety of complex electrical systems and equipment.
  • Knowledge of electrical codes and regulations, as related to the position.
  • Thorough knowledge of the methods, materials and techniques involved in construction: installing, maintaining and operating a variety of electrical systems, equipment and appliances, and of standard testing devices.
  • Considerable knowledge of all laws and regulations governing electrical installations within the District.
  • Ability to work as a liaison with other governmental agencies in the development, clarification and enforcement of electrical code requirements.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, contractors, building owners and the general public.
  • Ability to make decisions, recognizing established precedents and practices, and to use resourcefulness and tact in meeting new problems.
  • Proficiency in the use of computers and smartphones/tablets, including Microsoft operating system and file structures; Microsoft Word and Excel applications; and Apple operating system.
  • Some knowledge of the principles and practices of modern office management is required.
  • Ability to read plans and specifications and to determine their compliance with established rules and regulations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with the public.
  • Regular, dependable attendance required.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Five to seven years of experience in the Electrical field.
  • Florida State Certified Standard Inspector License issued by DBPR required. (Must obtain within 1 year of start date.)
  • Florida State Certified Standard Plans Examiner License issued by DBPR required. (Must obtain within 1 year of start date.)
  • Must possess a valid Florida State Driver's license and maintain eligibility under the District's commercial vehicle program.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Accela Automation and Bluebeam Revu, preferred.
  • Full Accredited Apprentice Program in Electrical Trade with Journeyman Certificate (preferred).
  • In lieu of current FL licensure, consideration may be given to those who can obtain their Provisional License within 120 days of hire and become fully licensed within 1 year.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect electrical installations and equipment for verification of compliance with rules and regulations of the EPCOT Electrical Code and state codes, laws and regulations.
  • Report any electrical violations.
  • Review electrical plans and specifications for verification of compliance with codes.
  • Compile reports and issue notices regarding plans, specifications, installations, and equipment found not in compliance with the rules and regulations of EPCOT Electrical Code, state codes, laws and regulations.
  • Return plans for correction and resubmission as necessary.
  • Consult and advise applicants, design professionals and others regarding use and application of EPCOT Electrical Code, state codes, laws and regulations.
  • Conduct visual inspections of properties during Annual Power Test.
  • Identify any major issues that may present safety hazards.
  • Provide reports and maintain records of inspections.
  • Investigate incidents and determine if electrical equipment and installations contributed to the situation.
  • Verify the safety of electrical equipment and installation for post-incident use.
  • Attend all training and continuing education courses as required.
  • Perform or assist with any operations, as required to maintain workflow and to meet schedules and quality requirements.
  • Participate in any variety of meetings and work groups to integrate activities, communicate issues, obtain approvals, resolve problems and maintain specified level of knowledge pertaining to new developments, requirements, and policies.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
