About The Position

Merrick & Company is seeking an Electrical I&C Equipment Designer for its Aiken, SC office to support Nuclear Services and Technology (NST) projects, particularly those involving the Department of Energy (DOE). The role focuses on the design of specialized equipment such as prototype/one-off custom equipment, gloveboxes, hot cells, specialty research equipment, and remotely operated mechanisms for handling radioactive and hazardous materials. The team also specializes in designing moderate hazard non-reactor nuclear facilities and their upgrades. The ideal candidate will be passionate about electrical design, capable of performing CAD work and designing electrical and instrumentation/controls systems, adaptable to a wide range of assignments (both nuclear and non-nuclear), and thrive in a team design environment. This position requires U.S. Citizenship.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills.
  • Must be able to meet expectations for attendance and punctuality.
  • Microsoft Office: Excel and Word.
  • Client projects for this position require US Citizenship.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of two (2) years of electrical I&C design experience.
  • Associate’s degree – Drafting/Design, Graphic Design or Technical College Certification or Equivalent Experience.
  • MicroStation, AutoCAD and Revit proficiency are beneficial but not required.
  • Experience using technical codes: NEC, ISA, IEEE, API, Regulatory Codes is beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Perform design and layout of electrical, instrumentation, and controls equipment and wiring during the production of CAD documents.
  • Work on a variety of activities including conceptual and detailed design of low voltage and medium voltage power distribution, lighting, grounding, motor control systems, process equipment and instrumentation.
  • Follow general outline of project objectives, requirements, and design approaches prescribed by staff.
  • Under direct supervision of senior designers and engineers develop electrical and instrumentation designs and drawings for assigned projects.
  • Develop electrical equipment layouts, cable tray and conduit routing plans and cable schedules.
  • Develop instrument location plans and installation details.
  • Develop instrument, PLC and DCS wiring drawings.
