About The Position

The Electrical Helper I installs electrical systems to project specifications under the direction of Electrical Journeymen and Foremen. The role includes installing raceway systems, conduit, supports, cable, duct banks, small electrical equipment, and, when required, pulling wire and connecting wiring to lighting fixtures and power equipment. Work must meet project production standards and be completed safely, neatly, and in accordance with project specifications.

This is a full-time project-site position, typically scheduled for 50 hours per week, with schedules subject to project requirements and travel required up to 90%. The work may involve shifts of up to 12 hours, changing outdoor weather and site conditions, physically demanding tasks, and work in confined or uneven areas or at heights.

Requirements

• 3–4 years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• At least 3 years of experience in an Electrical Helper IV role.
• Knowledge of MIC Health and Safety programs and project-specific regulations.
• Basic knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and basic electrical systems, including low- and high-voltage systems.
• Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Basic arithmetic skills, including adding and subtracting two-digit numbers, multiplying and dividing with tens and hundreds, and applying these operations to units of weight, measurement, and volume.
• Common-sense understanding and ability to carry out written or oral instructions.
• Ability to work within precise accuracy standards and follow established procedures and standards.
• Ability to work up to 12-hour shifts doing physically demanding work in varying temperatures and outdoor conditions.
• Ability to push, pull, and frequently lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds; use arms, hands, and legs fully; and stoop, kneel, balance, crouch, crawl, and climb.
• Ability to perform repetitive physical tasks continuously for several-hour intervals and maintain physical strength and stamina.
• Ability to wear required personal protective equipment, including safety-toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hardhat, and vest.
• Ability to work in confined, cluttered, and uneven areas and at heights while following safety and fall-protection requirements and using required equipment.
• Ability to evaluate information using measurable standards, notice details and slight differences in shapes and shading, and visualize three-dimensional objects from drawings.
• Ability to maintain balance and see and hear well, naturally or with correction, and coordinate the use of eyes, hands, and feet.
• Willingness to travel up to 90% and be present at project sites.

Responsibilities

• Install raceway systems to meet project production standards.
• Measure, cut, bend, thread, assemble, and install electrical conduit; weld supports; and install cable and duct banks.
• Pull wire through conduit when required and connect wiring to lighting fixtures and power equipment.
• Install small electrical equipment and supports.
• Attend safety meetings and complete daily safety paperwork.
• Demonstrate and promote safe behavior, including participating in daily toolbox meetings when on-site.
• Learn project specifications and install electrical systems in accordance with those standards.
• Install systems neatly and in a workmanlike manner.
• Look for ways to improve safety, quality, and productivity.
