Requirements

  • Strong understanding of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and industry standards.
  • Proficiency in mathematics, data analysis, and cost estimation methods.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical blueprints, plans, and technical documents.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • 5–7 years of field experience in commercial or industrial electrical work.
  • 3–5 years of experience in electrical estimating.
  • Experience with estimating software, Microsoft Office, and CAD tools.

Nice To Haves

  • College education not required—technical training or apprenticeships a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Turning complex industrial and electrical project scopes into accurate, executable, and competitive cost proposals.
  • Evaluating project requirements, analyzing drawings and specifications, and performing quantity takeoffs.
  • Developing labor and material pricing.
  • Collaborating with operations, project management, procurement, fabrication, and field leadership to ensure estimates are aligned with real-world execution conditions.
  • Analyzing electrical drawings, specifications, and RFQs to fully understand project scope.
  • Identifying and quantifying materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor needs.
  • Developing detailed electrical estimates, including conduit, wiring, controls, panels, and terminations.
  • Preparing labor estimates based on NEC, manpower productivity rates, and site conditions.
  • Maintaining relationships with vendors and subcontractors to obtain accurate pricing.
  • Evaluating vendor bids and subcontractor quotes for accuracy and competitiveness.
  • Using estimating software and tools to develop and present detailed cost proposals.
  • Collaborating with Project Managers and stakeholders to clarify scope and budget.
  • Tracking actual project costs for use in future estimates and job cost analysis.
