Electrical Engineering Manager
About The Position
William Charles Electric, a MasTec Company, is hiring an Electrical Engineering Manager to support high-voltage, medium-voltage, and transportation electrical projects. The role provides technical engineering information to Project Managers, Craft Supervisors, and Corporate Functional Managers to help ensure design development and construction comply with applicable engineering standards, codes, specifications, and design instructions. The position also supports pre-construction, project controls—including cost, scheduling, and estimating—subcontract oversight, and project construction supervision as needed. The position may be remote with travel or hybrid from the Rockford, Illinois office, with up to 50% travel to project sites. A company vehicle and fuel card are provided; meals and lodging are provided when overnight travel is required. William Charles Construction is part of MasTec’s Clean Energy & Infrastructure segment, which provides construction services across renewables, industrial, infrastructure, and general building markets. Requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree in an engineering discipline from an accredited university.
- Ability to understand the design and engineering of utility, high-voltage, and medium-voltage projects.
- Knowledge of construction activities, including the material, equipment, cost, and time requirements for construction tasks.
- Technical engineering and computing knowledge.
- Knowledge of codes applicable to industrial construction.
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook), AutoCAD, and document control systems.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, including technical communication.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team on all phases of an EPC project with minimal supervision.
- Ability to travel; the role may be remote with travel or hybrid in Rockford, Illinois, with up to 50% travel to project sites.
Nice To Haves
- At least 5 years of experience in utility or electrical systems.
- Experience estimating MEP scopes or managing project costs.
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in any state.
- Electrical generation experience with renewable projects.
- Special language skills where there is a business need.
Responsibilities
- Understand technical drawings and specifications for electrical and industrial construction, and interpret design documents for installation personnel.
- Assist with field design change requisitions and as-built drawings as required.
- Establish subcontract language, scope, terms, and technical requirements.
- Plan and develop construction work packages for electrical systems.
- Understand detailed project schedules, including activity predecessors and successors.
- Manage and coordinate material and human resources.
- Support Construction Management in analyzing and reporting daily progress.
- Support subcontractors in ways that adhere to the construction schedule and contract terms.
- Facilitate technical approvals by engineers and expedite design development according to the engineering schedule and contract terms.
- Propose modifications to engineering designs and interpret drawings, specifications, and other technical documents for subcontractors.
- Assist with preparing and distributing required records, including QA/QC reports, punch lists, sketches of completed work, and material requirement calculations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
