Electrical Engineering Manager
About The Position
For nearly 75 years, The Baker Company in Sanford, Maine has been designing and manufacturing American-made products that help protect scientists and advance research worldwide. The Baker Company is seeking an Electrical Engineering Manager to provide strategic leadership and day-to-day direction to our Electrical Engineering team and play a key role in developing and advancing the products that support scientific research. In this role, you’ll combine technical expertise with leadership, project management, and continuous improvement to guide the development, enhancement, and support of our biosafety cabinets and related products. You’ll lead innovative solutions involving electrical hardware, software, motors, blowers, and machine control systems while ensuring our products meet customer needs, regulatory requirements, and high standards of quality and performance. Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a closely related engineering discipline required.
- Minimum of five (5) years of Electrical Engineering experience.
- Minimum of five (5) years of leadership experience in a technical supervisory or management role.
- Demonstrated expertise in Motors and blower systems, Machine control systems and automation, Electrical hardware and software development, Electrical design, testing, and troubleshooting, Regulatory compliance and product certification requirements.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with customers, suppliers, and employees at all levels of the organization.
- Experience utilizing project management methodologies and tools.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and project management software
Nice To Haves
- Experience within a manufacturing environment preferred.
- PMP certification a plus.
- Working knowledge of intellectual property management is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership and oversight for the Electrical Engineering team in the areas of Motors and blowers, Machine control systems, Hardware and software development, Electrical design and wiring, and Product-related electrical engineering disciplines.
- Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory and safety standards, including UL, CE, and other relevant certifications.
- Guide the identification, evaluation, and implementation of emerging technologies and innovative solutions while ensuring appropriate validation, testing, and performance verification.
- Support engineering activities related to change requests, product enhancements, quotation support, quality issue resolution, supplier concerns, and post-sale customer support.
- Lead, coach, and develop assigned team members through effective performance management and professional development planning.
- Manage all aspects of employee supervision, including recruitment, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, training, performance evaluations, employee recognition, disciplinary actions, and conflict resolution.
- Assess organizational and staffing needs and make recommendations to support business objectives.
- Provide senior-level project management leadership and mentoring to engineering staff.
- Promote the use of project management best practices, including Stage-Gate processes, project schedules, milestone tracking, and Gantt charts.
- Ensure projects are completed on schedule, within scope, and aligned with organizational priorities.
- Lead departmental safety initiatives and foster a culture of workplace safety.
- Collaborate with product development, commercial, and cross-functional teams to establish, protect, and maintain intellectual property assets, including patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets.
- Reinforce associates’ awareness of keeping the customer’s end use and needs in mind with every task they do.
- Provide value to our customers by using Lean tools and concepts to identify and eliminate waste in all forms (scrap/rework, transportation, motion, waiting, inventory, over production, over processing, and under-utilization of people). Uses systemic thinking by seeing processes from end to end and works to challenge the status quo to eliminate the root cause of problems. Is involved in individual and/or team activities that involve using Lean tools and concepts to improve the flow of information and material.
