About The Position

The Boeing Mobility, Surveillance & Bombers (MS&B) Electromagnetic Effects (EME) and Reliability, Maintainability & System Health (RM&SH) capability is seeking a First-Level Engineering Manager in Tukwila, WA. This engineering management position will be responsible for leading the engineering teams that provide EME and RM&SH technical expertise for the MS&B business unit. The selected candidate will work with a collaborative leadership team that provides engineering leadership for the development of a multitude of air and space platforms recognized around the world. This position will lead customer focused teams providing direct specialty engineering support. Management responsibilities include mentoring and coaching all levels of engineers to enable knowledge transfer to our next generation of technical leaders and engineers. Responsibilities also include leading an integrated workstream that delivers both Electromagnetic Effects and RM&SH engineering support for key development programs. This engineering management position will be responsible for leading a multi-disciplinary engineering team that provides EME and RM&SH technical expertise for MS&B. The selected candidate will provide leadership for development activities across these programs, enabling safe, certifiable, and sustainable platforms for our customers.

Requirements

  • At least one year of experience in a leadership role (team leader, temp manager, large scale cross functional project/program management, or formal manager experience) OR have completed the Boeing internal course “Exploring Leadership”
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, chemistry or related technical discipline (ABET-accredited degree preferred)
  • Experience managing engineers or technical professionals in an engineering environment
  • Experience coordinating multi-discipline technical activities and balancing schedule, cost, and technical performance
  • Must be willing to travel as required (typical up to 25%)
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.

Nice To Haves

  • An ABET accredited Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a Master’s/PhD in electrical engineering is preferred

  • Previous experience in the defense or aerospace industry
  • Demonstrated familiarity with Electromagnetic concepts such as RF isolation, shielding, grounding, and filtering
  • Demonstrated knowledge or experience in Reliability, Maintainability, and System Health concepts (reliability analysis, failure modes, maintainability assessments, obsolescence management, diagnostics/system health)
  • Previous experience managing teams that span multiple engineering specialties (e.g., EME + RM&SH)
  • Prior hands-on experience with EME test and analysis: HIRF/Lightning, EMI/EMC, TEMPEST, antenna coupling, nuclear hardening
  • Prior hands-on experience with RM&SH tools and methods: reliability block diagrams, FMEAs, Weibull/MTTF analyses, prognostics/health management approaches, obsolescence mitigation
  • Experience with certification processes and producing verification/validation artifacts
  • Familiarity with software and tools such as LTSpice, SystemVision, MathCAD, MATLAB, Siemens Capital Logic, and common reliability analysis tools
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; demonstrated experience presenting to customers and stakeholders
  • Experience applying Lean, Agile, or Continuous Improvement methods
  • Master’s degree in Engineering, Systems Engineering, Reliability/Quality, Statistics, or related discipline

Responsibilities

  • Manage resources, processes, program support and E&EE and RM&SH Functional participation in a manner that supports successful Program execution for both EME and RM&SH work statements
  • Develop and implement viable schedules and resource plans and coordinate with BDS, BGS, BR&T, ET&T and BCA sites regarding all phases of EME and RM&SH design, analysis, test, verification and sustainment
  • Manage a diverse workforce and coordinate resources across multiple programs and discipline areas
  • Develop and maintain relationships and partnerships with customers, stakeholders, peers, partners and direct reports across both technical domains
  • Provide oversight and approval of technical approaches, products and processes for Electromagnetic Effects (EMI/C, HIRF/Lightning, shielding/grounding/filtering, antenna coupling, TEMPEST/EMSEC, nuclear hardening, EMI test/analysis) and for RM&SH (reliability analyses, maintainability/design-for-support, diagnostics, obsolescence mitigation, sustainment strategy, system health & prognostics)
  • Lead team continuous process improvements including application of Lean+ principles and cross-discipline integration best practices
  • Manage, develop, and motivate diverse employees and regularly meet one-on-one with each employee; support knowledge transfer between EME and RM&SH engineers
  • Provide technical management of suppliers and partners supporting EME and RM&SH activities
  • Resolve cross-functional technical issues, and ensure technical conformity to program and regulatory requirements
  • Develop and execute project and process plans, implement policies and procedures and set operational goals
  • Provide input to program-level risk identification and mitigation associated with electromagnetic and reliability/system-health risks
  • Support development of certification artifacts and verification plans where EME and RM&SH interact with safety and airworthiness disciplines
