2027 Summer Internships - Electrical Engineering
About The Position
Invenergy is seeking Electrical Engineering interns for its Summer 2027 Internship program. This program offers students the opportunity to gain hands-on professional experience in the clean energy industry, working with industry-leading tools and software. Interns will engage with leaders, learn about the industry through lunch-and-learns, visit power plants, participate in community service, and network with peers and executives. The internship lasts for 10-12 weeks, from late May/early June through August. Interns will be placed in various electrical engineering departments, including Renewable Electrical Engineering, Thermal Electrical Engineering, SCADA Engineering, and Operations Engineering (Electrical). Responsibilities will involve technical design, evaluation, and construction of commercial and utility-scale projects, supporting senior engineers in managing conceptual and detailed designs, and potentially working with systems such as inverter-based generators, medium voltage circuits, substations, transmission lines, SCADA systems, and associated IT infrastructure.
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in a 4-year Bachelor’s degree program with an expected graduation date between Fall 2027 and Summer 2028.
- Majoring in Electrical Engineering or Power Systems Engineering.
- Eligible to work in the United States without the need for employer visa sponsorship now or in the future.
Nice To Haves
- A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.
- Demonstrated interest in energy sector.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the technical design, evaluation, and construction of commercial and utility-scale projects.
- Manage conceptual project designs and selected engineering firms to complete final detailed designs for projects.
- Be responsible for the electrical engineering and construction of cutting-edge energy projects (renewable or natural gas).
- Work with SCADA systems and associated communications infrastructure for renewable energy projects.
- Assist engineers with electrical troubleshooting, including review of digital fault records, relays, and other operational data.
- Collaborate with site personnel, contractors, equipment manufacturers & consulting engineers for electrical issues.
- Assist operating facilities with electrical procedure development.
- Review and organize as-built site documentation including electrical drawings, schematics, bill of materials, electrical studies, test reports, and relay settings.
- Troubleshoot electrical issues affecting generation technology, including wind turbines, solar panels, and battery systems.
- Contribute to projects aimed at enhancing safety and improving operational efficiency.
- Perform root cause analyses to identify potential future risks and drive fleet-wide corrective action plans.
