About The Position

Invenergy is seeking Electrical Engineering interns for Summer 2027. This internship program offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on professional experience in the clean energy industry. Interns will expand their knowledge and skills with industry-leading tools and software, engage with leaders, and learn about the sector through various activities. The program includes site visits to power plants, community volunteering, lunch with the Founder and Executive Chairman, networking events, and exploration of Chicago with fellow interns. The internship typically runs for 10-12 weeks from late May/early June through August. Interns will be considered for various electrical engineering departments, focusing on the technical design, evaluation, and construction of commercial and utility-scale projects. Past interns have contributed to teams in Renewable Electrical Engineering, Thermal Electrical Engineering, SCADA Engineering, and Operations Engineering (Electrical).

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a 4-year Bachelor’s degree program with an expected graduation date between Fall 2027 and Summer 2028.
  • Majoring in Electrical Engineering or Power Systems Engineering.
  • Eligible to work in the United States without the need for employer visa sponsorship now or in the future.

Nice To Haves

  • A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.
  • Demonstrated interest in the energy sector.

Responsibilities

  • Overseeing the technical design, evaluation, and construction of commercial and utility-scale projects.
  • Managing conceptual project designs and selected engineering firms to complete final detailed designs for projects.
  • Engineering and construction of cutting-edge energy projects, including managing conceptual project designs and selected engineering firms for final detailed designs.
  • Engineering, procurement, and commissioning of SCADA systems and associated communications infrastructure for renewable energy projects.
  • Coordinating with multiple stakeholders to develop conceptual designs for SCADA systems.
  • Managing procurement, final detailed designs, commissioning, and acceptance testing for SCADA systems on renewable energy projects.
  • Assisting engineers with electrical troubleshooting, including review of digital fault records, relays, and operational data.
  • Collaborating with site personnel, contractors, equipment manufacturers, and consulting engineers for electrical issues.
  • Assisting operating facilities with electrical procedure development.
  • Reviewing and organizing as-built site documentation, including electrical drawings, schematics, bill of materials, electrical studies, test reports, and relay settings.
  • Troubleshooting electrical issues affecting generation technology, including wind turbines, solar panels, and battery systems.
  • Contributing to projects aimed at enhancing safety and improving operational efficiency.
  • Performing root cause analyses to identify potential future risks and drive fleet-wide corrective action plans.
