About The Position

EP² provides power management systems for commercial and utility industries across power generation, transmission, and distribution. The Electrical Engineering Intern supports the Engineering team and contributes to projects by performing electrical design work and coordinating with engineers and Production staff in a fast-paced environment. The position is located in Des Moines, Iowa, and reports to the Engineering Manager.

The intern assists with the design, drafting, review, troubleshooting, and functional testing of electrical systems and related drawings. The role also supports Production and Project Management staff and helps ensure drawings meet high industry standards of quality.

Requirements

• Working toward a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a comparable field.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, other Microsoft Office programs, and Google Workspace.
• Knowledge of CAD programs such as AutoCAD and MicroStation.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist in designing AC and DC schematic and wiring diagrams for relay panels and control enclosures used in power-industry electrical systems.
• Troubleshoot technical diagrams and answer questions from Production and Project Management staff.
• Functionally live test relay and control panels, battery systems, and control enclosures.
• Verify wiring diagrams against AC and DC schematic drawings.
• Draft schematic and wiring diagrams using AutoCAD, MicroStation, or other CAD-based software.
• Create control cable schedules and communication cable schedules.
• Ensure drawings conform to high industry standards of quality.
• Help review designs for accuracy.
