About The Position

The Electrical Engineering Intern position is a temporary 10-week program designed for current college students to gain training, exposure, and experience in a key functional area impacting the business. Participants will work directly with managers and mentors to develop technical and leadership skills. The intern will gain perspective and understanding of various production areas at Airgas, working on diverse projects that provide real-world experience and directly impact the organization. This role requires a hybrid schedule with two days on-site in Cottage Grove, Minnesota, and three days remote per week, subject to change based on business needs.

Requirements

  • Currently working towards a graduate or undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology.
  • 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA.
  • Dependable, quick learner who is independent and works well with others.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Detail-oriented and quality focused.
  • Ability and desire to work in industrial environments.
  • Strong verbal communication, organization, and scheduling skills.
  • Ability to act with professionalism, customer focus, and confidentiality.
  • Ability to learn and utilize Google applications (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Gmail).
  • Able to save and maintain electronic files.
  • Ability to learn and use additional 3rd party software programs.
  • Ability to write routine business correspondence in English.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from Associates and/or customers.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals using the English language.
  • Ability to prioritize workload and self-manage projects, handle multiple tasks, and meet strict deadlines.
  • Must have reliable, appropriate transportation.
  • Job requires visitation to various Airgas sites, which have varying environments/conditions, layouts, and accessibility.

Responsibilities

  • Support the engineering, manufacturing, and procurement process to meet project needs.
  • Coordinate with internal and external engineering resources.
  • Assist in the development of project proposals, cost estimates, budgets, timelines, and schedules.
  • Support and comply with all process safety management and risk management plan practices.
  • Support all personnel policies directed by local and corporate personnel.
  • Learn skills and gain exposure to the use of motor protection relays.
  • Build a project to update obsolete units.
  • Complete digital backups for all in-service relays.
  • Support the Reliability team with health assessments of critical medium voltage equipment in the US and Canada.
