About The Position

This Spring 2027 Electrical Engineering Co-Op position in Tampa is designed for students seeking practical experience where their contributions are valued. The role involves applying classroom knowledge to real-world electrical design projects, understanding system integration, and problem-solving in areas such as circuit design, calculations, and drawing reviews. The ideal candidate is curious, detail-oriented, and eager to learn from experienced engineers, aiming for hands-on experience, mentorship, and a strong foundation for an engineering career. HEAPY's Co-Ops actively contribute to meaningful healthcare-focused projects, gain exposure to professional design standards, and develop skills for their future as engineers.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Architectural Engineering, or a related AEC discipline from an ABET-accredited (or equivalent accredited) program.
  • Ability to work full-time (40 hours per week) for the duration of a semester.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate successfully within a team environment.
  • Familiarity with the Microsoft Office Suite.

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to AutoCAD, Revit, or similar design software.

Responsibilities

  • Performs a variety of assignments involving the application of foundational electrical engineering principles within HEAPY projects.
  • Supports project teams by contributing to design tasks, learning industry tools and standards, and gaining exposure to real-world engineering applications under the guidance of experienced colleagues.
  • Develops and applies foundational electrical engineering knowledge within the built environment.
  • Supports project teams with design tasks, documentation, and basic calculations.
  • Learns and utilizes design tools such as AutoCAD, Revit, or other applicable software.
  • Ensures accuracy and quality in all assigned work while building an understanding of the underlying principles.
  • Collaborates with colleagues to support project deliverables and meet deadlines.
  • Gathers, organizes, and documents information for use in designs, reports, and specifications.
  • Participates in quality assurance activities by reviewing work for completeness and accuracy.
  • Engages in continuous learning through training, mentorship, and hands-on experience.
  • Builds familiarity with HEAPY standards, processes, and expectations.
  • Demonstrates professionalism through communication, accountability, and teamwork.
