About The Position

The Defense & Materials Solutions team is currently seeking an Electrical Engineering Co-Op for Spring Semester 2027 (January-April). This position is 100% onsite located in Columbus, Ohio. The Electrical Engineering Co-op will support Battelle’s National Security business. This group specializes in the design, development, testing, and production of unique, complex electronic and electromechanical systems. Application deadline: October 9th, 2026.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering and engineering coursework equivalent to sophomore standing or higher
  • Experience with standard lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, multi-meters, function generators, etc.
  • Experience working in a lab environment such as soldering, wiring, test preparation, data collection and documentation
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office application software such as Word, Excel, Powerpoint
  • Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Positive attitude and eagerness to take on technical challenges
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Must be a sole US citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a US government security clearance

Nice To Haves

  • A continuous learner who possesses a tinkerer mentality and strong engineering/math fundamentals.
  • Previous internship or work experience in the engineering discipline
  • Familiarity with electrical drawings such as circuit schematics, wire harnesses, and PCB drawings
  • Familiarity with electrical engineering design tools and methods such as schematic capture, simulation, analysis, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support to electrical system design which may include: Searching for parts, Specifying components, Soldering circuit boards, Building wire harnesses, Writing firmware, Designing circuits (simulation, schematic capture, PCB layout, assembly, test, and debug)
  • Support hardware test activities (temperature testing, functional verification, performance evaluation)
  • Prepare engineering documentation as required
  • Provide engineering support to product technical staff and managers as required
