About The Position

HED is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to provide technical execution, design leadership, and interdisciplinary coordination for complex electrical systems, with a focus on healthcare projects. The role manages major portions of electrical scopes, leads quality assurance and quality control efforts, mentors team members, and represents the electrical discipline in client-facing settings. The engineer is expected to independently deliver technical content from early design through construction, resolve system-level challenges, and contribute to project strategy, team development, and firmwide standards. The role includes leading electrical system design and documentation, validating engineering calculations, overseeing electrical Revit models, coordinating with other disciplines, and serving as a primary technical contact. It also involves reviewing project submittals and RFIs, conducting site visits and field verification, supporting quality plans, mentoring junior staff, contributing to project scoping and resource planning, and presenting electrical concepts and decisions at project meetings. The position follows a hybrid work model with work-from-home flexibility and regular in-office days. The office is a professional, open-space environment for collaborative and independent work.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) licensure.
  • Understanding of project financial status, development of project cost budgets, the value of client relationships, and delivering projects with a focus on quality.
  • Ability to work a hybrid office schedule at one of the listed locations.
  • Written and verbal communication skills commensurate with the position.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Revit experience.
  • Experience with computers, including word processing, spreadsheets, and email.
  • Detail-oriented, self-motivated, enthusiastic, flexible, and curious approach.
  • Ability to work well with others under deadline situations.

Nice To Haves

  • 10+ years of experience in the AEC industry.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and documentation of complex electrical systems, including distribution risers, lighting controls, emergency power, and low-voltage systems, with minimal oversight.
  • Validate and approve electrical engineering calculations, such as service sizing, short circuit, voltage drop, and lighting power density, and integrate results into system design.
  • Oversee setup of electrical Revit models, including views, sheet organization, system browser strategies, and annotation standards.
  • Resolve system conflicts during interdisciplinary coordination with architectural, structural, and civil teams.
  • Serve as the primary electrical technical contact across internal and external project teams.
  • Review and approve electrical submittals, RFIs, and substitutions, coordinating responses with the broader team.
  • Perform site visits, field verification, and punch walks with high autonomy; prepare professional electrical field reports.
  • Provide electrical design leadership from early concept through construction administration, informing system selection, performance targets, and documentation strategy.
  • Guide quality assurance and quality control reviews for electrical deliverables and assist in developing project-specific electrical quality plans.
  • Mentor junior engineers and electrical designers through delegation, technical feedback, and one-on-one coaching.
  • Participate in fee development, scope definition, and resource planning for electrical scope in project proposals.
  • Contribute to internal and external project meetings by presenting electrical system concepts, decisions, and trade-offs.
