About The Position

HED is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to provide technical execution, design leadership, and interdisciplinary coordination for complex electrical systems in healthcare projects. The role manages major portions of electrical scopes, guides quality reviews, mentors team members, and represents the electrical discipline in client-facing settings. The engineer is expected to independently deliver technical work from early design through construction, resolve system-level challenges, and contribute to project strategy, team development, and firmwide standards. The position includes leading electrical design and documentation, validating engineering calculations, overseeing electrical Revit models, coordinating with other disciplines, reviewing construction documents and project requests, and conducting site visits. The engineer also supports project planning and proposals and presents electrical system concepts and decisions in project meetings. The role follows a hybrid work model, combining work from home with regular in-office days. Offices provide a professional, open-space environment for collaborative and independent work.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) licensure.
  • Understanding of project financial status, development of project cost budgets, the value of client relationships, and delivering projects with a focus on quality.
  • Ability to work a hybrid office schedule at one of the listed locations.
  • Written and verbal communication skills commensurate with the position.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Revit experience.
  • Computer experience, including word processing, spreadsheet use and creation, and email.
  • Detail-oriented, self-motivated, enthusiastic, flexible, and curious disposition.
  • Ability to work well with others under deadline situations.

Nice To Haves

  • 10+ years of experience in the AEC industry.

Responsibilities

  • Lead design and documentation of complex electrical systems, including distribution risers, lighting controls, emergency power, and low-voltage systems, with minimal oversight.
  • Validate and approve electrical engineering calculations, including service sizing, short circuit, voltage drop, and lighting power density, and incorporate results into system design.
  • Oversee setup of electrical Revit models, including views, sheet organization, system browser strategies, and annotation standards.
  • Resolve system conflicts during interdisciplinary coordination with architectural, structural, and civil teams.
  • Serve as the primary electrical technical contact for internal and external project teams.
  • Review and approve electrical submittals, RFIs, and substitutions, coordinating detailed responses with the broader team.
  • Perform site visits, field verification, and punch walks with high autonomy, and prepare professional electrical field reports.
  • Provide electrical design leadership from early concept through construction administration, informing system selection, performance targets, and documentation strategy.
  • Guide quality assurance and quality control reviews for electrical deliverables and assist in developing project-specific electrical quality plans.
  • Mentor junior engineers and electrical designers through delegation, technical feedback, and one-on-one coaching.
  • Participate in fee development, scoping, and resource planning for electrical scope in project proposals.
  • Contribute to internal and external project meetings by presenting electrical system concepts, decisions, and trade-offs.
