About The Position

Coffman Engineers is seeking an Electrical Engineer with 1-3 years of experience in lighting, power, and low-voltage consulting engineering to join their team in Westminster, CO. The role involves developing electrical engineering design deliverables, including drawings, specifications, calculations, and reports. The engineer will also review and prepare project drawings, conduct site visits to gather existing electrical data, and collaborate with design partners for coordinated designs. Familiarity with relevant codes such as NEC, ICC Codes (IBC and IECC), and client standards is essential. The position also includes performing load calculations, voltage drop calculations, short circuit calculations, and photometric calculations using lighting software. Requirements

  • BS in Electrical Engineering or Architectural Engineering (with electrical power emphasis).
  • Experience in electrical design consisting of lighting and power systems.
  • Experience with AutoCAD and Revit.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel.
  • Must be a self-starter who is able to see the big picture and connect the vision of the company with their job, be persistent, and follow through in a consistent manner.
  • Takes ownership of their work and accountability of project deadlines.
  • Possess strong critical thinking, organizational, and analytical abilities (or demonstrate ability to develop such abilities).
  • Must understand database concepts.
  • Working knowledge of marketing databases and proposal resource files.
  • Able to work independently, as a team member, and as a team leader.
  • Strong organizational ability; detail oriented; high degree of accuracy.
  • Able to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to travel (mainly local area travel but travel outside CO may be needed).

Nice To Haves

  • EIT in Electrical Engineering, preferred.
  • Low-voltage design experience, preferred.
  • Experience in designing electrical systems for healthcare, higher education, manufacturing, federal/DoD, science and technology, and/or data center projects, preferred.
  • Local AHJ experience and relationship, preferred.
  • Experience with electrical studies, preferred (SKM, E-Tap, EasyPower).

Responsibilities

  • Developing electrical engineering design deliverables including drawings, specifications, calculations, testing requirements, acceptance criteria, reports, electrical studies, feasibility studies/condition surveys, etc.
  • Reviewing and preparing project drawings including electrical site plans, one-line diagrams, demolition plans, lighting and power plans, calculations pertinent to the design, and panel and equipment schedules.
  • Visiting sites to collect existing electrical data and verify/confirm information provided on existing drawings.
  • Collaborating with design partners for a coordinated design.
  • Ensuring design conforms with all applicable codes, adopted amendments, and client standards.
  • Using Coffman’s various software to complete project invoices with the support of Coffman’s billing specialists, and manage and track project budget.
  • Perform load calculations, voltage drop calculations, and short circuit calculations.
  • Perform photometric calculations using lighting software.
