Electrical Engineer, Mid-Level

Simulation Technologies•Huntsville, AL

About The Position

SimTech, Inc. is seeking a mid-level Electrical Engineer to join its team in Huntsville, Alabama. The role designs and develops complex mixed-signal, high-speed circuits and printed circuit boards for embedded processing application systems. Work includes circuit and PCB design, hardware documentation, testing and troubleshooting, and supporting integration into deliverable systems. The engineer collaborates with mechanical, systems, and software engineering teams and presents designs for preliminary and critical design reviews. Employees in these positions primarily work at customer sites, field locations, and test ranges, with periodic work in office and laboratory settings. The work may involve frequent travel, extended deployments to remote or austere locations, full days outdoors in varying weather, and varying shifts and hours to support fielded system availability. Personal protective equipment may be required.

  • At least 6 years of demonstrated relevant experience.
  • Extensive experience developing schematics for analog, digital, and power circuitry, including signal conditioning, high-speed ADCs/DACs, Ethernet, Multi-Gigabit Transceivers, linear and switching power supplies, and RF front ends.
  • Extensive experience designing complex PCBs using Altium Designer.
  • Knowledge of signal and power integrity best practices, including controlled-impedance traces, phase matching, and noise and crosstalk management.
  • Familiarity with RF circuit components and design.
  • Knowledge of IPC standards and PCB fabrication and assembly processes.
  • Ability to program and test FPGA SoCs using integrated logic analyzers.
  • Familiarity with VHDL firmware development for FPGAs.
  • Proficiency with multimeters, oscilloscopes, signal and RF generators, and network analyzers.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to interact effectively with stakeholders.
  • U.S. citizenship and an active Secret security clearance, with ability to maintain the required clearance.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Design complex analog, digital, RF, and power circuitry.
  • Develop multilayer printed circuit board (PCB) designs.
  • Generate layer stack-ups and select materials to meet system performance requirements.
  • Design cable harnesses and interconnects to integrate multiple PCBs and commercial off-the-shelf hardware.
  • Apply Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), and Design for Test (DFT) principles.
  • Create and maintain bills of materials, fabrication and assembly documentation, and associated interface documentation.
  • Test and troubleshoot manufactured hardware and support integration into deliverable systems.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, systems, and software engineering to ensure designs meet program requirements.
  • Prepare and present designs at preliminary and critical design reviews (PDR and CDR), incorporating peer and stakeholder feedback into the released baseline.
